3. InVid's Check GIF

The tool allows users to verify the authenticity of GIFs (Graphics Interchange Format) by analyzing their metadata and identifying any alterations or manipulations. It uses advanced image analysis techniques to detect signs of manipulation or editing, such as differences in compression artifacts, frame rates, or color palettes. Here you can place two versions of an image to create a quick animation for comparison purposes.

  • Go to the InVID Check & Verify website at https://www.invid-project.eu/tools-and-services/invid-check/
  • Next, open the image section and click Check GIF (tool reserved for journalists, fact checkers and researchers)
  • Place in or upload two versions of the image - the altered version and original one
  • It gives you a GIF that flips between the altered and original image for comparison
