Fact Check: Prince Charles Did Not Unveil A Portrait Labelling Netanyahu As Terrorist, Edited Video Goes Viral

New Delhi (Vishvas News). A video is going viral on social media, featuring Prince Charles III unveiling a portrait of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu with  ‘terrorist’ written on it. Sharing the video, users are claiming that Europe has labelled Netanyahu a ‘terrorist’ with this portrait.

Vishvas News, in its investigation, found that the viral video was edited. Netanyahu was not in the original video, and the portrait has been altered. The original portrait features Prince Charles III with nothing mentioned on it. The video dates back to the unveiling of Prince Charles III’s first official painted portrait after his coronation.

What is in the viral post?

Sharing the viral post, a Facebook user wrote, “Europe has declared Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu an international terrorist. A large poster of this was unveiled yesterday. Make it viral worldwide. Now it is the responsibility of all of us to make it viral globally.”

Investigation

To begin our investigation, we searched for the key frames of the viral video using Google Lens. This led us to the verified YouTube channel of ‘The Royal Family Channel’, where we found the original video of Prince Charles unveiling his portrait.

Comparing the original video with the viral one clearly shows that the latter one has been altered.

The original video only features Prince Charles III, while the edited version includes a picture of Benjamin Netanyahu with a text. Here, you can see the difference between the two.

According to a BBC report dated May 14, 2024, the first official painted portrait of Prince Charles III after his coronation was unveiled at Buckingham Palace. Made by Jonathan Yeo, this portrait measures about 8.6 feet by 6.6 feet.

To verify the authenticity of the viral video, we contacted JP Ranjan, a senior journalist covering international affairs at Dainik Jagran, who confirmed that this video was edited and Prince Charles has not unveiled any poster against Netanyahu.

Lastly, we conducted a social scanning of the Facebook user who shared the misleading post and found that the user is based in Pakistan.
