Fact Check: Viral video of Sarfaraz Taking A Dig At Shubman Gill Is Edited

New Delhi (Vishvas News). A video of Indian cricketer Sarfaraz Khan is going viral on social media, with claims that he criticised Shubman Gill, calling him a bad batsman and mocking him.

Vishvas News’ investigation revealed that the viral claim is false and Sarfaraz has not made any such comments. The viral video has been edited, and misleading audio has been added to create a false narrative. In the original video, Sarfaraz is discussing his performance and hard work. 

What is going viral

On September 19, 2024, X userSports with Naveen’ shared the viral video with the caption, “Speaking on Janta Ki Awaaz ft Sarfaraz Khan, Shubman Gill, and Ruturaj Gaikwad.”

Investigation

To verify the authenticity of the viral video, we conducted a Google search using relevant keywords. We found the original video on the official YouTube channel of sports journalist Vimal Kumar, uploaded on 22 January 2023. In this 7.47-minute video, the journalist asks Sarfaraz about his hard work and his experience to which, Sarfaraz speaks about his career, discussing his participation in Ranji Trophy, IPL, and representing the country. At no point does he make any remarks about Gill. Also, we found that the voice in the viral video is noticeably different from Sarfaraz Khan’s voice.

Continuing the investigation, we looked into the audio used in the viral video. We found the original video on a YouTube channel named ‘Reaction Yo21’. In that video, the YouTuber is seen asking people on the streets to name an overrated cricketer. In response, a boy mentions Shubman Gill and makes comments about him.

During our investigation, we searched on Google using relevant keywords but found no credible news report supporting the claim that Sarfaraz Khan called Shubman Gill a bad batsman.

For more information, we spoke to sports journalist and commentator Syed Hussain, who confirmed that the viral claim is false.

Finally, we scanned the account of the user who shared the video with misleading claims and found that the user regularly shares sports-related posts and is followed by 261 people.

Conclusion: Vishvas News’ investigation revealed that the video claiming Sarfaraz Khan took a dig at Shubman Gill is false, as Sarfaraz has not made any such statement. The video has been edited and the added audio is misleading. In the original video, Sarfaraz discusses his game and hard work, not Shubhman Gill.
