Fact Check: Viral Video Of Iftar Party Held On Road In Karnataka Falsely Attributed To West Bengal

New Delhi (Vishvas News): A video depicting an Iftar party held on a road has been circulating widely on social media. The video shows chairs arranged for a program along one side of the road. Some users are sharing this video, claiming that it shows an Iftar party organised on a road in Kolkata, West Bengal.
Vishvas News conducted an investigation and found that the viral video is actually from Mangalore, Karnataka, and has no connection to West Bengal. Following the revelation, the Election Commission issued a notice to the event’s organiser.
What Is Going Viral?
The post that made the viral claim was shared by Facebook user Jay Gupta (archive link) on April 1, along with the caption:
“After the Namaz on the road, here is Iftar party on the road.
The video is from Kolkata, West Bengal.”
Investigation
To verify the claim, we extracted a keyframe from the video and searched for it using Google Lens. We found related news and videos on the India Today website. According to an article published on April 1, 2024, the Election Commission sent a notice to the organisers of the Iftar party held on the road in Mangalore, Karnataka. A video of the event had gone viral. The video showed chairs placed along one side of the road in the Mudipu area, with plates of food visible.
Similar news can be found on the India TV website. An article published on April 1 states that the Model Code of Conduct is in effect due to the Lok Sabha elections. After the video of the Iftar party on the road in Mangalore surfaced, the Election Commission took notice and issued a notice to the event’s organiser.

We reached out to Karnataka TV journalist Yasir Khan for confirmation. He confirmed that such an incident had occurred in Mangalore, Karnataka, and that the viral video was indeed from Karnataka.
Upon reviewing the profile of the user who claimed the video was from Kolkata, we found that they are a resident of Barabanki with approximately 5,000 friends.
