Fact Check: Viral Photo Shows Abhishek Manu Singhvi’s House, Not Manish Sisodia’s

Vishvas News’s investigation found this claim to be false. The house in the picture belongs to Congress leader and Supreme Court lawyer Abhishek Manu Singhvi, not AAP leader Manish Sisodia.

New Delhi (Vishvas News). Former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia was granted bail by the Supreme Court on August 9, 2024, with Congress leader and Supreme Court lawyer Abhishek Manu Singhvi representing his case. After spending 17 months in jail, Sisodia is in the news and many of his pictures with his family have emerged. Among all these, a picture is going viral on social media, featuring Sisodia and Singhvi together, with an air purifier and some paintings in the background. The picture is being falsely claimed to be of Sisodia’s house.

Vishvas News investigated the claim and found it to be fake. The house featured in the picture belongs to Abhishek Manu Singhvi, not Manish Sisodia.

What is in the viral post?

On August 11, 2024, Facebook user Amit Gautam shared a viral picture on the public group Vishwaguru Bharatvarsh, with the caption, “Aam Aadmi Party leader Manish Sisodia is enjoying clean air with an expensive Dyson air purifier (50 thousand) in his house while the ‘common man’ is suffocating due to pollution outside. He’s celebrating with his lawyer Abhishek Manu Singhvi after getting bail by paying high legal with taxpayer money. Also, look at the photo on the wall behind—it reveals his taste as well.”

Investigation

To investigate this post, we performed a reverse image search using Google Lens and found this picture in many news reports.

Notably, this picture was also featured in a Times of India report dated August 10, 2024. According to the report, “Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Manish Sisodia met senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi at his residence on Saturday to thank him for his legal help in getting bail from the Supreme Court in the excise policy case.”

We also found more pictures of this meeting in a Dainik Jagran report dated August 10, 2024. The report states, “Senior AAP leader and former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia met senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi at his residence on Saturday. Sisodia expressed his gratitude to him. Senior AAP leaders Sanjay Singh and Atishi were also present there. Abhishek Manu Singhvi has been representing both Kejriwal and Sisodia, playing an important role in getting bail for Sisodia.”

We contacted AAP leader Saurabh Bhardwaj, who confirmed that this picture is from Abhishek Manu Singhvi’s house, not Manish Sisodia’s.

Manish Sisodia, who was in jail for 17 months on charges of money laundering, was granted bail by the Supreme Court on August 9, 2024. He had been in custody since February 26, 2023.

The Facebook group ‘Vishwaguru Bharatvarsh’ where this post was shared has more than 9000 members and was created eight years ago.

Conclusion: Vishvas News’s investigation found this claim to be false. The house in the picture belongs to Congress leader and Supreme Court lawyer Abhishek Manu Singhvi, not AAP leader Manish Sisodia.
