Fact Check: Viral Clip Not Of Congress Leader Udit Raj, Old Video Of Tripura MLA Shared With Misleading Claim

New Delhi Vishvas News – A video is being circulated online that falsely claims to show Congress leader Udit Raj. Some social media users are using this video to make fun of Udit Raj as they falsely claim that it shows him falling down while kicking a football. The video has actually been on YouTube for five years, and it originally showed Tripura MLA Gopal Chandra Roy falling down while kicking a football.

Facebook user Om Dutt posted a video on July 9, claiming, “Respected Dr Sahab Mr Udit Raj Bhai inaugurating the match.”

Believing the claim in the post, other users have also shared it virally. The content of the post is written here as it is. Its archived version can be seen here.

Investigation

Vishvas News first extracted several keyframes of the viral video using Invid tool. After this, these keyframes were uploaded to Google reverse search image tool. We found the original video uploaded five years ago on a YouTube channel called The Correspondent. It was uploaded on August 11, 2017. In this video, it was told that MLA Gopal Chandra Roy slipped while kicking a football while inaugurating a tournament.

During the search, the same video was also found on a YouTube channel named STV Tripura. This was posted on August 9, 2017, with the description saying that MLA Gopal Chandra Roy fell in a field of Agartala.

This video was also uploaded on August 13, 2017 by another YouTube channel which stated that MLA Gopal Chandra Roy got injured while kicking a football. It is clearly known that the viral video and the video uploaded on this YouTube channel are of Gopal Chandra Roy.

Vishvas News further contacted Congress leader Udit Raj. It was told on his behalf that the viral video was not his, and the viral post was shared with the aim to tarnish his image.
