Fact-Check: Viral claim about Sudarshan News Editor-In-Chief Suresh Chavhanke’s wife is false

New Delhi (Vishvas News): A post targeting the wife of Sudarshan News Editor-In-Chief Suresh Chavhanke is going viral on the internet. Several users share a screenshot claiming that Suresh Chavhanke’s wife has eloped with a Muslim man. The screenshot was shared using the breaking news template of the Hindi news channel Aaj Tak.

Vishvas News in its investigation found this claim to be false. The breaking news template being shared with the claim has also been made with the help of editing tools. Suresh Chavhanke, from his official Twitter handle, has warned of legal action against such people, terming the objectionable claims about his family as propaganda against him.

Claim:

Social media user ‘Manjit Singh’ shared the viral post (archive link) with the caption, “Suresh Chavhanke’s wife absconding with Muslim youth who raised slogans against love jihad”. Many users have also sent this viral screenshot to the tipline number of Vishvas News and requested to verify the claim.

Several users on Twitter have also shared the viral screenshot with the same claim.

Investigation:

A post is going viral with claims that the wife of Sudarshan News Editor-In-Chief Suresh Chavhanke’s wife has eloped with a Muslim man. The post is shared with the breaking news template of the Hindi news channel Aaj Tak. Similar words have been written differently in the viral post and the font of the breaking template is also different from the original breaking news template of Aaj Tak News. By looking at the image, it is clear that this breaking plate has been prepared with the help of editing tools.

We also googled Suresh Chavhanke’s Twitter handle. He has dismissed the viral post on his Twitter handle and warned of legal action against people sharing the post. Tagging the Uttar Pradesh Police in the tweet, he wrote, “#Fake posts are being made viral by opponents. My family is as staunch hindu as me. It is a sign of losing the battle of arguments and principles with me that elements with perverted mindset have descended on the defamation of my family. I will take legal action against all of them.”

It is clear from our investigation that the claim about Suresh Chavhanke and his wife is baseless and the breaking news plate going viral with this claim has also been prepared with the help of editing tools.

Vishvas News contacted Suresh Chavhanke regarding the viral claim. “It is the work of people with perverted mindset who want to defame me and my family. We have registered complaints against more than a thousand people at around 100 places across the country,” he said.

Conclusion: The claim that Sudarshan News Editor-in-Chief Suresh Chavhanke’s wife eloped with a Muslim youth is false. The breaking news template of the Hindi news channel ‘Aaj Tak’ has also been prepared with editing tools.
