Fact Check: Viral Audio Of Conversation Between Swati Maliwal And Dhruv Rathi Is AI-Generated

The viral audio allegedly featuring a conversation between Swati Maliwal and Dhruv Rathi is AI-generated and the users are sharing it believing it to be true.

New Delhi, Vishvas News – An alleged audio recording of a conversation between Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal and YouTuber Dhruv Rathi is going viral. In this 43-second audio, Swati can be heard saying that she was beaten on  Sunita Kejriwal’s orders and Arvind Kejriwal was also present there at that time. Sharing this audio clip, some users claimed it to be a real conversation between Swati Maliwal and Dhruv Rathi.

Vishvas News’ investigation revealed that the viral audio is AI-created using voice cloning technology. Swati Maliwal’s media head confirmed it to be fake, while Swati has posted on her X handle that Dhruv Rathi is ignoring her calls and messages.

What Is The Viral Post

Facebook user Vishambher Chaturvedi (archive link) shared the viral audio on May 25, 2024, and wrote,

“ Delhi

Swati Maliwal and Dhruv Rathi’s video goes viral.

Swati Maliwal asked Dhruv Rathi not to make the video on AAP’s instructions.

The beating happened on the instructions of Kejriwal and Sunita.

Dhruv makes videos as per the opposition’s agenda.” X user Sudheer Pandey (Modi’s family) has also shared this post (archive link).

Investigation:

To verify the authenticity of the viral audio, we reviewed the post of the user who shared it and found that many users have commented and called it fake or AI-created.

We also checked Swati Maliwal’s X handle. In a post ( archive link ) on May 26, 2024, she stated, “I have been receiving rape and death threats since the leaders and workers of my party ‘AAP’ started a character assassination and shaming campaign against me. This increased further when YouTuber Dhruv Rathee posted a one-sided video against me. As far as the party leadership is concerned, it is quite clear that they are trying to intimidate me to withdraw my complaint. However, I tried my best to reach out to Dhruv to tell him my side but he ignored my calls and messages.”

We then analysed the audio using Invid (beta version) deepfake analysis tool, available exclusively for fact checkers. We found that there is a 74 percent probability that the audio was created by AI, pointing towards a strong possibility of voice cloning.

We further verified the audio using Eleven Labs and found that there is a 98 percent probability that this audio was generated by their platform. We also reached out to Swati Maliwal’s media head Vandana Singh, wo confirmed, ” The viral audio is fake. Swati Maliwal has also informed through a post that Dhruv Rathi has ignored her calls and messages.” We reviewed the profile of the Facebook user who shared this AI-generated audio. The user is based in Unnao and has around 1,100 followers
