Fact Check: Video of Dubai Police playing The Indian National Anthem is from Diwali celebrations in 2019, not Independence Day 2021

In our investigation we found this claim to be misleading. The video of the Dubai Police band playing the Indian national anthem is actually from Diwali celebrations in October 2019. On the occasion of the 75th Indian Independence Day, the world’s tallest building Burj Khalifa was definitely illuminated with the tricolor. But the news of Dubai Police Band playing Indian National Anthem and celebrating Indian Independence Day 2021 is wrong.

New Delhi (Vishvas News). A video is going viral on social media, in which some people dressed in Arabic attire can be seen playing the Indian national anthem on the band. It is being claimed with the post that this video is from the 2021 Indian Independence Day celebrations in Dubai where local city Police performed this. In our investigation, we found that this claim is misleading. The video of the Dubai Police band playing the Indian national anthem is actually from Diwali celebrations in October 2019.

Investigation

To start our investigation, we first extracted the key frames of this video by putting it on the InVID tool. We searched these images on Google reverse image. We found this video on Indianexpress.com news uploaded on October 25, 2019. According to the news “During Diwali festivities in Dubai the city’s police band played the Indian national anthem and a video of the performance is going viral.”

We also got news on this at news18.com. According to the information available here, this video is from 2019, when the city police band played the Indian national anthem during Diwali festival.”

We spoke to Heba Hashem, a well-known Dubai-based journalist about this. She also confirmed that the video is from 2019 and no such event has happened in Dubai recently.

On searching, we found that on the occasion of 75th Indian Independence Day, the world’s tallest building Burj Khalifa was illuminated with tricolor. But there was no news of Dubai Police Band playing the Indian National Anthem and celebrating Indian Independence Day 2021 anywhere.

The video was shared by a Facebook user named Sindhu Rajesh with a false claim. After scanning the user’s account, we found that he has 2,634 followers on Facebook.

Conclusion: In our investigation we found this claim to be misleading. The video of the Dubai Police band playing the Indian national anthem is actually from Diwali celebrations in October 2019. On the occasion of the 75th Indian Independence Day, the world’s tallest building Burj Khalifa was definitely illuminated with the tricolor. But the news of Dubai Police Band playing Indian National Anthem and celebrating Indian Independence Day 2021 is wrong.
