Fact Check: Video Of Dehradun’s Ghantaghar Going Viral With Misleading Claims

Vishvas News conducted a thorough investigation, revealing that the viral video falsely claimed to be from Lal Chowk in Srinagar was, in fact, from Dehradun.

New Delhi Vishvas News – As the date for the consecration ceremony for Ram Lalla’s idol in the Ram temple in Ayodhya approaches, there has been a surge in posts related to it on social media. Vishvas News has looked into some of these posts, revealing that some are fake and misleading. A video has recently gone viral, featuring an image of Lord Shri Ram on a clock tower. This video is being widely shared, with claims that it was filmed at Lal Chowk in Srinagar.

Upon investigation by Vishvas News, it was discovered that certain social media users are circulating the video from Dehradun, falsely asserting that it is from Lal Chowk in Srinagar. Our investigation has confirmed that this viral post is indeed misleading.

What’s Going Viral?

Facebook page “Hindu Help Line Delhi” posted a video on January 18, 2024, claiming, “Lal Chowk of Srinagar, where even the tricolor was not flying, today Shri Ram is sitting there… Jai Hindu Rashtra, now Hindus are ahead.” Believing it to be true, other users are also sharing the post.

Investigation:

Vishvas News used the Invid tool to gather information about viral videos. We extracted multiple screenshots from the viral videos. Subsequently, we traced the original video by utilising the Google Lens tool. The search through Google Lens revealed several videos similar to the viral one on the internet. We found a similar video uploaded on a YouTube channel on January 15, 2024, with claims that it is from Dehradun.

Taking the investigation further, the video was searched using the Google Open Search Tool. Numerous media reports confirmed the use of LED screens and laser lights on the clock tower in Dehradun. A news article on ETV Bharat’s website, dated January 16, 2024, highlighted that the clock tower, referred to as the heart of Dehradun, had been transformed into Rammayi. The article reported the playing of Ram’s hymns at the site, creating a devotional ambience that captivated everyone. Additionally, LED screens and laser lights were being employed to extend invitations for the Pran Pratishtha event.

In the next phase of the investigation, we used Google Maps for information about the clock tower in Dehradun and accessed the street view. Progressing further in the inquiry, Vishvas News reached out to Ankur Aggarwal, a reporter at Dainik Jagran in Dehradun. The viral video was shared with him for analysis. Providing valuable information, he clarified that the viral video corresponds to Ghantaghar located in Dehradun.

Furthermore, to solidify the findings, Vishvas News consulted Naveen Nawaz, a senior correspondent at Dainik Jagran, Jammu and Kashmir. Naveen Nawaz confirmed the authenticity of the information and labelled the viral post as fake.

At the end of the investigation, the Facebook page of Hindu Helpline Delhi was scanned. More than 5,000 people follow this page.

Conclusion: Vishvas News conducted a thorough investigation, revealing that the viral video falsely claimed to be from Lal Chowk in Srinagar was, in fact, from Dehradun.
