New Delhi (Vishvas News). A video is going viral on social media amidst the ongoing violence in Bangladesh. The video shows a large group of people vandalising a building. Some users are sharing this video, claiming that it depicts the attack on Hindus in Bangladesh.
Vishvas News in its investigation discovered that the viral video depicts an attack on the police office in Dhaka. After Sheikh Hasina left Bangladesh, the mob attacked a Police office. The video is being falsely shared with a communal claim.
What is the viral post?
On August 20, 2024, Facebook user ‘Ram Jane’ (archive link) posted the video with the caption, “Such attacks are happening on Hindus in Bangladesh.. Hindus are still being attacked by Bangladeshi fundamentalists. The brutality continues and Hindus are forced to jump from rooftops to escape. #SaveHindus Appeal”
Investigation
The key frames from the viral video were extracted and searched using Google Lens. This video was uploaded on Ononna Yeasin’s YouTube channel on August 12, 2024. No information about the incident or its location was provided in the video.
In the video, some people are seen tearing a board. After translating the text, it was revealed that it reads ‘Bangladesh Police’.
YouTube channels BD News 24 and FK Vlogs reported that this video shows an attack on the police.
This video was also uploaded on the YouTube channel ‘Sham Alam Sagar’ on August 6, 2024, with the caption “DB office is being demolished.”
While searching on Google Maps, we identified the location as Keraniganj, Dhaka, Bangladesh.
We reached out to Arafat, the news editor of Bangladesh’s Probash Times, and he confirmed that after Sheikh Hasina left Bangladesh, the mob attacked the police office in Keraniganj, Dhaka and the video has been purportedly shared with a communal angle.
We also scanned the Facebook profile of the user who shared the video with the misleading claim. The user appears to be influenced by a specific ideology.
