Fact Check: Video of a Crying Rickshaw Puller is not from India but from Bangladesh

Vishvas News (New Delhi): A video going viral on social media shows a weeping rickshaw puller. As per the claim, the security personnel is forcibly picking up the rickshaw of the rickshaw puller in India. Vishvas News investigated and found that the video is not from India, but from Bangladesh.

Claim

The video shows a weeping rickshaw puller. The security personnel are taking a rickshaw puller’s rickshaw. The description read, “The Law of this country is only for poor people ..! @rashtrapatibhvn @VPSecretariat @PMOIndia @narendramodi_in @PTI_News ”.

Investigation

We checked the entire video and found a person with mic in his hand trying to interview the rickshaw puller. On its mic, Jamuna TV was written. Jamuna Tv is a Bangladesi News Channel. We checked Jamuna TV’s YouTube channel and found the same video uploaded to this channel on October 6, 2020. The description in the video was written in Bengali which translates to English: Now I will commit suicide by hanging myself; Rickshaw puller cries #Rickshaw_Puller .”

We further searched and found a news report dated October 9, 2020 on the Times Now website where the screengrab of the viral video was used. The incident is reported to have occurred in Dhaka, Bangladesh, where “A stranger helped buy three rickshaws for rickshaw pullers after authorities in Bangladesh’s Dhaka seized their vehicles.”

Vishvas News spoke to Mohammad Yunus Khan, Editor, Jamuna TV Bangladesh. He said, “This incident is from Dhaka in Bangladesh. This video is quite viral and many people have come forward to help Rickshawalas. ”

The video was shared on Twitter by a user named Moparthi Ajay @MoparthiAjay. When we scanned the profile of the user we found that it has been created in August 2020.

Conclusion: Vishvas News investigated and found that the viral video is not from India, but Bangladesh.
