Fact Check: This Viral Image Claiming To Show Cricketer Liton Das Is Edited And Old

New Delhi (Vishvas News). A misleading post is circulating on social media claiming that it shows Bangladesh cricketer Liton Das watching a Television news report showing his house being burnt down. Vishvas News has found the claim to be false.
A few days ago, posts claiming Das’s house was set on fire had gone viral. Multiple fact-checkers, including Vishvas News, debunked the false claim.
The current claim, featuring a photo of a person watching TV, with the caption alleging that it is Das, viewing fake news about his house burning down.
Vishvas News investigated and found the person in the picture was not Das. The original photo, taken in 2020, is a meme created by the actor Islah Abdur-Rahman, featuring former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson on TV.
What is the viral post?
Facebook user ‘Habibullah FAIZI DOT COM’ shared this photo on August 8, 2024, claiming it to be of the Bangladesh wicketkeeper Das and wrote, “This is Bangladesh’s famous cricketer Liton Das. Standing in his house and watching the news of his own house being burnt on Godi media…”
Investigation
To investigate this post, we used Google Lens. The original image was uploaded on March 24, 2020, on the X handle named Islah. The person in the photo watching TV is the same, but the screen shows former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson. The caption of the original photo reads, “Every Asian Dad watching the news right now.”
When we perused Islah’s X handle, we found more such pictures.
We checked the bio of the account ‘Islah’ and discovered it belongs to British-Bangladeshi filmmaker and actor Islah Abdur-Rahman. Additional checks across his social media profiles confirmed that the viral image is indeed his.
We also spoke to Dainik Jagran’s sports editor Abhishek Tripathi, who confirmed that the person in the picture is not cricketer Das.

Facebook user Habibullah FAIZI DOT COM, who shared the photo with the misleading claim, has over five lakh followers.
