Fact Check: This video is of Gangeshwar Temple in Diu, not Pashupatinath temple in Nepal

The viral post proved to be fake in the investigation of Vishvas News. The video which is being viral as Kathmandu’s Pashupatinath temple is of Gangeshwar Mahadev temple in Diu.

Vishwas News (New Delhi). A video of a Shiv temple is going viral on social media with the claim that this is Pashupatinath temple located in Nepal. Vishvas News investigated the viral post. We came to know that the viral video has nothing to do with Nepal. This video is of Gangeshwar Mahadev Temple located in Diu.

What is going viral

Facebook user ‘Dilse’ uploaded this post. In the video, 5 Shivlings can be seen on the seashore. In the video, the waves of the sea are seen continuously colliding with the Shivling. The description reads: ‘This video is of Shri Pashupati Nath ji in Kathmandu, which is in Nepal, the photo of this Shivling is very difficult to get, you can also send it to your friends so that they too can do Darshan.”

Investigation

To check this post, Vishvas News first put this video in the InVid tool and extracted several screengrabs. After this, we did a Google reverse image search of these screengrabs. We found many videos from different angles of this Shiv temple on YouTube and Facebook. All these places described the place as the Gangeshwar Mahadev temple of Diu.

When we searched with keywords, we found many more videos of Gangeshwar Mahadev of Diu. All the videos were identical to the viral videos. It is clear that this video is of Gangeshwar Mahadev temple in Diu.

For more confirmation in this regard, we spoke to Dainik Jagran’s Gujarat correspondent Shatrughan. He confirmed that this video is from Gangeshwar Mahadev temple in Diu.

Now we had to know what the Shivling of Pashupatinath Temple in Nepal looks like. We came to know from a video of ABP News that this temple is on the banks of the Bagmati river. Here Lord Shiva has four faces. It is very different from the viral video. You watch the full video below.

Now it was time to investigate the user who made this video viral with the wrong claim. Facebook page Dilse has 879K followers.

Conclusion: The viral post proved to be fake in the investigation of Vishvas News. The video which is being viral as Kathmandu’s Pashupatinath temple is of Gangeshwar Mahadev temple in Diu.
