Fact Check: The tallest man in the world is from Turkey, not Pakistan

New Delhi (Vishvas News). A video of a tall man is going viral on many social media platforms. The post is claiming that this Pakistani man is the tallest person in the world. Vishvas News found this claim to be fake. The man in the picture is not the tallest man in the world. Currently, the tallest man in the world is not a Pakistani but a Turkish man.

A video of a tall man is going viral on social media. The description reads, “The tallest man in the world is a Muslim brother from Pakistan.”

Investigation

We first watched the video carefully. In many places, the height of the person can be seen fluctuating. In many places, this person appears to be of normal height and in many places quite tall. It looks like the video has been edited.

We searched with keywords to check the claim in the post. We found an article on guinnessworldrecords.com about the tallest man. Sultan Kosen of Turkey is the tallest person in the world at 251 cm (8 ft 2.8 in) tall according to Guinness World Records.

There is no similarity between the picture of Sultan Kosen and the picture of the person in the viral video.

We then went through the Guinness World Records for the tallest people in the last 100 years.

In this list was the name of Alam Channa of Pakistan, who got the title of being the tallest person in the world in 1981. He died in 1998. More information about Alam Channa can be read in this news of dawn.com.

We contacted Guinness World Records about this. Alina Polianskaya, PR executive of Guinness World Records Limited, replied to our mail saying “The tallest man living is Sultan Kösen (Turkey, b.10 December 1982), who measured 251 cm (8 ft 2.8 in) in Ankara, Turkey, on 8 February 2011.”

The post was shared on Facebook by a user named ‘নানু ান‎’. The user is a resident of Bangladesh.
