Guwahati (Vishvas News) || Recently a video has gone viral on social media where a team of artists is performing Surya Namaskar, an important part of yoga. The video was shared by various social media users who referred to it as the opening ceremony of the ongoing Tokyo Olympics. They also mentioned that it is an honour for Indian culture. WE found in our investigation that the claim is false. This video of surya namaskar is not from Tokyo Olympics, but of a ceremony held in Mongolia in 2015 in honor of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
What is this viral post?
Facebook User Rajendra B Gondkar shared a 1.45 minute video and wrote, “Surya namaskar “सूर्यनमस्कार”being performed at the opening ceremony of Olympics in Tokyo Japan with our National flag Dress Code… Take pride in spreading our culture throughout the world.. ”

Investigation
To check out the viral post, we first watched the opening ceremony of the Tokyo Olympics on the Olympics Verified YouTube channel. We did not find any yoga related performance anywhere. You can see the original full video by click here. On the other hand, logo of Tokyo Olympics can’t be seen in any frames in the viral video.
On reverse image searching the viral video’s screen grabs, we found this video on several YouTube channels. The video was actually shot during an event organized in Mangolia in 2015 in honor of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2015 when he visited the nation. The news in media can be seen by click here.
We also found this video on verified YouTube channels of PMO India and PM Narendra Modi, with the same description.
We then contacted Barnali Mahanta, Media & Communication Officer at the Guwahati office of Press Information Bureau, to confirm this. She assures us that this is completely fake news.
We scanned the account of Rajendra B Gondkar who shared this viral video. The man was followed by 946 people.
