Fact Check: Ratan Tata Did Not Announce To Give Rs 10 Crore To Rashid Khan, Viral Claim Is False

New Delhi (Vishvas News): Numerous false and misleading assertions regarding the 2023 World Cup have circulated widely across social media platforms. Among these, a particularly trending post alleges that during the Pakistan-Afghanistan match on October 23, Afghan player Rashid Khan chanted “Bharat Mata ki Jai.” Subsequently, the International Cricket Council (ICC) purportedly levied a fine of Rs 55 lakh on Khan due to a complaint lodged by Pakistan. The viral post further asserts that industrialist Ratan Tata will cover Khan’s imposed fine and additionally reward him with Rs 10 crore.

Upon investigation, Vishvas News has conclusively determined the viral claim to be false. Ratan Tata himself has explicitly refuted these circulating claims, dismissing all assertions associated with his name as erroneous.

What’s going viral?

Facebook user ‘Samsher Singh Shekhawat’, while sharing the viral link on October 30, 2023, wrote in the caption, “Respected Sri Sri Ratan Tata Sir… No no, I am not talking about Bharat Ratna. After the Pakistan-Afghanistan match, Afghan Player Rashid Khan chanted “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” and raised slogans of “Jai Shri Ram”, then Pakistan, which is supported by all Congressmen and leftist sycophants, complained to ICC and ICC imposed a fine of Rs 55 lakh on Rashid, then Shri Ratan Tata ji said that he will pay the amount of Rashid’s punishment and also gave a reward of Rs. 10 crore to Rashid. This is the year of India, this is the greatness, Jai Jai Jai Shri Ram Bharat Mata and they always abuse son of Bharat Mata and true Indian like Ratan Tata and supports Pakistan, Hamas, Rohingya and terrorists.”

Vishvas News Investigation:

To investigate the viral claim, we conducted a Google search using relevant keywords. This led us to a post from Ratan Tata’s verified X handle that explicitly refutes the claim. The tweet, posted in English on October 30, 2023, contains a Hindi translation stating, “I have not suggested any penalties or rewards to any player to ICC or any cricketing body. I am in no way associated with cricket. Kindly refrain from believing WhatsApp forwards and videos unless they originate from my official platform.”

While investigating, we came across a report on Dainik Jagran’s website related to the claim, published on October 30, 2023. According to the report, “Renowned industrialist Ratan Tata has recently addressed his non-affiliation with the ICC or any cricket officials, refuting all claims attributed to him.”

We reached out to Tata Trust PR representative Bob John regarding the viral claim. He denounced the viral post as false, stating that Ratan Tata himself had dismissed the claim. Numerous claims associated with Ratan Tata have already circulated widely on social media and have been investigated by Vishvas News. These fact-check reports are accessible here.

Subsequently, we examined the profile of the user who shared the false claim and discovered that the user is from Jaipur and has 534 friends on Facebook.

Conclusion: Vishvas News, through its investigation, has determined that the claim regarding Rashid Khan receiving a reward of Rs 10 crore from Ratan Tata who also paid his fine of Rs 55 lakh is false. Ratan Tata has directly addressed the claim by sharing a post on his verified X account.
