New Delhi Vishvas News – After the recent communal violence in Nuh and other districts of Haryana, several provocative posts are circulating on social media. Vishvas News has investigated one such post and confirmed that the viral images are old and unrelated to the current incidents. However, some social media users are now sharing a video depicting a brutal assault on a person on the street, attempting to link it to the violence in Mewat.
Vishvas News conducted a thorough investigation and found that the video being shared with claims that it is related to the Mewat violence, is actually from Bangladesh. The video was shot six years ago, capturing an incident where a group of people attacked and killed a man named Abu Saeed, who was a fugitive accused in the murder of Awami League leader Monir Hussain. This video is now being falsely attributed to the violence in Mewat.
What’s Going Viral?
Blue tick X (formerly Twitter) user ‘Gopal Goswami‘ shared a video on August 2, and wrote in the caption, “If you do not wake up on Mewat, one day your end will also be like this.” Similarly, Facebook user ‘Ghanshyam Jangid’ shared the same video on August 3, claiming it to be related to the Mewat violence.
Vishvas News Investigation:
To verify the video’s authenticity, Vishvas News extracted keyframes from the video and performed a reverse image search on Yandex. The search led to a news report from July 25, 2017, on the website of Jansatta, stating that the video had been widely shared on social media previously with different false claims. These included attributing the video to incidents in Bihar’s Nawada, West Bengal and the killing of a CRPF jawan by Kashmiri students. However, the fact remains that the video is not from India but from Bangladesh, specifically from an incident that occurred on April 1, 2017.
Vishvas News reached out to Mohammad Sakijuman, co-founder of Bangladesh-based Rumor Scanner, who confirmed the authenticity of the video and its connection to the incident in Cumilla, Bangladesh, where Abu Saeed lost his life due to the attack. The video was earlier shared on June 18, 2017, by a Facebook user from Bangladesh, who referred to it as an incident related to the murder case of Mani’s chairman.
