New Delhi (Vishvas News). After violence broke out in Nuh district of Haryana on July 31, social media users began sharing several posts online. Various posts were shared linking the photos and videos to the Nuh incident. When Vishvas News investigated some of these photographs, it found that they have nothing to do with the communal clashes that took place in Nuh. The pictures were found to be from old incidents which were not related to the current situation in Haryana.
What Is Going Viral
On July 31, Twitter user ‘Chandan Sharma‘ (archived link) shared four images with the hashtags Haryana and Mewat and wrote communal and inflammatory statements.
Facebook user ‘Apoorva Singh’ (archive link) shared an image on August 1, using the hashtags Haryana and Mewat, along with a similar inflammatory and communal post. In this, some policemen could be seen beating a young man.
Similarly, on August 1, Facebook user ‘Chandra Ramesh’ (archived link) posted the image with the same hashtags and provocative remarks.
Investigation
Vishvas News searched for the viral pictures one by one with the help of Google reverse image and Google lens.
On searching the first photo, we found it was uploaded on the website of Firstpost with a news article published on September 10, 2017. The article reported on the arrest of a member of the Dera Sacha Sauda, Sirsa, by the Haryana Police. Govind Insan was accused of inciting violence in Panchkula after the conviction of Dera chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh in a rape case, the report said, citing PTI. The picture therefore has no link to the Nuh violence.
Second picture
On searching this photo with Google reverse image, we found it in a photo gallery published by NDTV on February 20, 2013. According to the news, “The two-day Bharat bandh called by 11 major trade unions paralysed banking services across the country and shut down public transport in cities. Factories in Noida came under attack and a trade union activist died in violence in Ambala.” In this gallery, pictures of cars burnt during protests in Greater Noida have been shared. Thus, it becomes clear that the viral picture is not from Nuh.
We spoke to Arvind Uttam, a local TV journalist from Noida who covered this incident. He said, “During the protest in 2013, miscreants set the car factory on fire. This picture is from that incident.”
Third picture
Through Google reverse image, we found this picture in a Times of India report published on December 25, 2019. The caption read, “Police personnel clash with protestors during a rally against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) in Kanpur.” This picture is thus not related to the violence in Nuh.
According to Gaurav Dixit, Dainik Jagran’s crime reporter from Kanpur, said, “This picture is three-four years old and is from Kanpur.”
Fourth picture
After searching it with the help of Google Lens, we found this picture on the website of News18. The caption read, “File photo of an anti-CAA protest turning violent in Kanpur.”
Finally, we scanned the profile of the Twitter user who shared the old photographs linking them to the Nuh violence. The user has been on X, formerly known as Twitter, since October 2015 has more than 12,000 followers.
Conclusion: All the four pictures being shared in connection with Nuh are old and from different incidents. They have nothing to do with Nuh violence.
