Investigation
We search the picture using Google reverse image search tool. We found this viral photo in the photo gallery of Outlook. According to the description, “Manmohan arrives for a CWC meeting at Sitaram Kesari’s house, Delhi 1997.”
Manmohan Singh became the Prime Minister of India in 2004. In 1997, Manmohan Singh was the MP of Rajya Sabha.
Special Protection Group (SPG) is entrusted with the task of providing proximate security to the Prime Minister of India, former Prime Minister and their immediate family members. As soon as the Prime Minister takes the charge, the SPG provides the security to the PM. In such a situation, if the viral post was true, it would be impossible that the Prime Minister arrives in Parliament in taxi and without any security.
We spoke to Dr. Suresh Kumar, the spokesperson of Congress. He confirmed that this photo is from 1997.
We scanned the Facebook page Up News Hindi that shared the fake post. We found that the page has 21,912 followers on Facebook.
Conclusion: Vishvas News investigated and found the claim to be fake. Manmohan Singh became the Prime Minister of the country for the first time in 2004, while the viral picture is of 1997 when he visited the house of the then Congress President Sitaram Kesari. Manmohan Singh was not the Prime Minister of the country at that time.
