Fact Check: Old Case of Cow Skins Found In Trolley In Ujjain Goes Viral As Recent News

About six years ago, a trolley loaded with the skins of two thousand cows was caught in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh. Confusion is being spread by calling that case a recent one.

New Delhi, Vishvas News – A post in the name of Indore, Madhya Pradesh is going viral on social media. The post depicts a video that a truck loaded with cow skin had been caught in Indore. The names of the accused are Ram Bhajan, Ramesh Mishra and Umesh. Users are using this information to make  provocative statements.

In its investigation, Vishvas News discovered that about six years ago in July 2018, a trolley loaded with two thousand cow hides was seized in Ujjain. Confusion is being spread by sharing this old case on social media.

What Is The Viral Post

X-user @Mohatrma01__ shared the video (archive link) on June 27, 2024, writing, “A truck carrying cowhide was caught in Indore and Ram Bhajan, Umesh, and Ramesh Mishra were also arrested. These blind devotees lynch Muslims in the name of mother and themselves do business of their own mother.” Facebook user Abdul H Khan also shared the viral video with the same claim (archive link). The young man seen in the video is also making a similar claim.

Investigation

To verify the viral claim, we searched about it using the keywords. As per the news published on Dainik Jagran’s website on July 17, 2018, the Crime Branch seized a trolley containing two thousand cow skins from Ujjain’s village Ratadia and three accused were taking the trolley to Kolkata. Authorities are preparing to take action against them under the National Security Act (NSA). The accused have been identified as driver Narendra Kumar, cleaner Umesh, and skin owner Ravi. The skins were intended for making shoes in Kolkata.

This news, along with pictures can also be found on Punjab Kesari’s website on July 18, 2018. Apart from this, we could not find any such media report on the internet confirming the viral claim. Earlier in November 2019 also, a similar claim had gone viral, as posted by the Facebook user Aheer SK Yadav.

To know more about the viral video, we extracted its keyframes and searched it using Google Lens and Yandex Reverse Image, but could not find any information. We spoke to Abhishek, the city in charge of Naiduniya, Indore and he confirmed that no such case has come up recently.

We scanned the profile of an X user who shared an old case as a recent one. This user is influenced by a specific ideology with around 4622 followers.

Conclusion: About six years ago, a trolley loaded with the skins of two thousand cows was caught in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh. Confusion is being spread by calling that case a recent one.
