Investigation

We started our investigation by searching the internet with appropriate keywords. We didn’t find any media reports claiming CBSE has reduced 50 percent syllabus. However, we found some media reports saying CBSE had reduced 30 percent syllabus in July and is now planning to reduce 20 percent more as schools are still closed. Board has not finalized the decision on reducing the 20 percent syllabus.

We listened to the viral video carefully and found that the voiceover in the video also says the same thing that CBSE had reduced 30 percent syllabus and is now planning to reduce 20 percent more. But the title and the description of the video is misleading.

We found a circular on the official website of CBSE released on July 7 this year. This circular informed about a 30 percent reduction in the syllabus. We also found the link where the students from class 9th to 12th can find the revised syllabus. We found another circular dated July 15, explaining the guidelines regarding the revised syllabus and internal assessment.

Vishvas News contacted CBSE helpline where Rajesh Sharma clarified that the board had reduced 30 percent syllabus in July. Board is also planning a further reduction of 20 percent in the syllabus, but the decision is still pending.

The post is shared on YouTube by the channel named “APNA COOL SCHOOL”. When Vishvas News investigated we found that the channel has more than 16600 subscribers.

Conclusion: The post claiming CBSE has reduced the syllabus to 50 percent is misleading. CBSE had reduced the syllabus by 30 percent in July this year and is planning a further reduction of 20 percent, but the decision was not finalized by the timing of filing this copy.
