New Delhi (Vishvas News). A post is going viral on social media with the misleading claim that the government has banned Instagram, stating that the platform will be shut down completely from September 10, 2024.

Vishvas News investigated the claim and found it to be misleading. There has been no official announcement from the government regarding the ban. The claims about the Instagram ban are fake.

A Facebook user shared the post with the caption, “Instagram will be shut down from September 10, 2024, tell your friends quickly.”

Investigation

To verify the viral claim, we conducted a Google using relevant keywords but found no credible news report supporting it.

We also checked the official website of the Government of India for any relevant information but found no evidence related to the claim.

We also checked the official Play Store website and found that Instagram is still available for download and use.

We also checked Meta’s official website, the company that owns Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp and there was no information supporting the claim. In the past also, similar posts have gone viral, and when we contacted Meta via email, they confirmed that the viral claim was misleading.

For further verification, we reached out to Neelu Ranjan, Dainik Jagran’s National Bureau journalist, who confirmed that the claim is fake.

We also scanned the profile of the user who shared the misleading post. The user has 5700 followers and identifies as a resident of Uttar Pradesh.

Conclusion: Vishvas News’s investigation revealed that the viral claim about Instagram being banned is misleading and the government has not made any such announcement.
