Fact Check: LK Advani’s Alleged Statement On Rahul Gandhi Is Fake; Claim Goes Viral
A misleading claim in the name of senior BJP leader LK Advani is going viral on social media and he has not referred to Rahul Gandhi as the hero of Indian politics.

New Delhi Vishvas News – Amidst the third phase of voting for the Lok Sabha elections 2024, a post purportedly linked to senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader LK Advani is going viral on social media. It is being claimed that Advani has described Rahul Gandhi as the hero of Indian politics. However, in its investigation Vishvas News found that there is no evidence of Advani making such statements and fake claims are being made in his name on social media.

A user shared this post with Vishvas News on the tipline number +91 9599299372 and requested to validate its authenticity. On May 8, 2024, Facebook page Shailendra Kumar Sen I posted Advani’s picture ( archive link ) with a caption, “Rahul Gandhi is the hero of Indian politics: LK Advani.
7th May. 2024. IIn the viral clip, former Home Minister and Bharat Ratna Awardee Shri Lal Krishna Advani made a significant statement regarding Rahul Gandhi. Advani has said that despite being from BJP and as a social worker, he believes that Rahul Gandhi is the only person who has the capability to make India a good nation and lead India towards progress. He also said that despite being active in politics for so long, I have never seen an influential leader like Rahul Gandhi.
Lal Krishna Advani’s statement is significant given the third phase of ongoing Lok Sabha elections. Its importance is highlighted by the recent Bharat Ratna awarded by the Modi government. Under such circumstances, by praising Rahul Gandhi, Advani has posed a notable challenge to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
A portal named avadhbhumi has also made this claim by publishing an article affirming Advani’s statement ( archive link ). As per the article,It has been claimed that Advani purportedly admired Rahul Gandhi, emphasising that he had never seen an influential leader like Rahul Gandhi in politics.
Investigation:
To verify the viral claim, we conducted an investigation on Google using relevant keywords. However, we could not find any such report on any trustworthy media platform that could verify the viral claim.
Following this, we scanned the portal named avadhbhumi where this viral claim was published on May 8, 2024. The article states, “Former Home Minister Bharat Ratna Lal Krishna Advani has praised Rahul Gandhi and said that he can make India a good nation, because he has the ability to take decisions that provide a new direction to the countrymen. He has not seen an influential leader like Rahul Gandhi in politics. This statement of Advani came during the third phase of elections.”
We found a disclaimer section on the portal, stating, “All the information on this website is published in good faith and for general information purposes only and avadhbhumi.com does not make any warranties about the completeness, reliability and accuracy of this information. Any action you take upon the information you find on this website is entirely at your own risk and avadhbhumi.com will not be liable for any losses and/or damages in connection with the use of our website.”
This indicates that the portal does not provide any confirmation regarding the credibility of its news. Further investigating through ‘Who.is’ we discovered that the portal is registered in Holland.
In our investigation we came across a news article on HimachalTonight.com ( archive link ). It states, “State Congress Committee Vice President Naresh Chauhan has said that senior BJP leader Lal Krishna Advani has also agreed that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is the future of the country.”
We spoke to BJP national spokesperson Sanjay Mayukh regarding this and he said, “ Congress is adopting various tactics, which seem to be ineffective. People will respond to it through their votes. Advani has been the Deputy Prime Minister of the country and if he gives any such statement then they will be officially released by the party or Deepak Chopra”.
We also reached out to Advani’s close aide and his old associate Deepak Chopra regarding this and he said, “ LK Advani has not said any such thing. He has never given any such statement now or earlier.”
Voting for the third phase of the Lok Sabha elections held on May 7, 2024, as announced by Election Commission of India in a press release on March 16, 2024. Subsequently, the fourth phase of voting is scheduled for May 13, 2024.
