Fact Check: Fake tweet by parody account of Ranjan Gogoi going viral

Claim

A Facebook user shared the viral post, which has a screenshot of a tweet. The Twitter handle reads @THEGOGAI and Ranjan Gogoi’s photo can be seen in the display picture. The tweet read, ‘‘पहले मोदी हटावो, फिर योगी हटावो, फिर खट्टर हटावो, अब कह रहे हैं चलो SDM ही हटा दो, नाक कटने से बचा लो।’ (English translation: First remove Modi, then remove Yogi, then remove Khattar, now they are saying let’s remove the SDM, save the nose from being cut.’ In the same screenshot, a user’s comment can also be seen, ‘जय भारत। गोगोई जी।’.

Investigation

We started our investigation by scanning the account @THEGOGAI on Twitter. The account description stated that it is a parody account and the fan page was made in the name of Ranjan Gogoi. It was created in October 2019 and more than 1.16 Lakh people follow this account.

In the social scanning of this account, we also found the tweet done on September 10, 2021, the screenshot of which is going viral on Facebook.

Vishvas News contacted Dainik Jagran’s special correspondent Mala Dixit. She said that Ranjan Gogoi has not made any such tweet.

There are many parody accounts on Twitter in the name of Ranjan Gogoi and screenshots of the tweets made by those accounts often go viral on various social media handles. Vishvas News did the social scanning of the Facebook page Hindu Rashtra, which shared the fake post. We found that this page was created on October 3, 2019, and is followed by 119,188 people.
