New Delhi | Vishvas News: After the Cricket World Cup 2023 final, several pictures of Indian captain Rohit Sharma, Mohammad Shami and Australian captain Pat Cummins alongside PM Modi are going viral on social media. The pictures are being shared with a claim that Rohit, Shami and Pat Cummins touched the feet of PM Modi.
Upon investigation by Vishvas News, it was determined that the viral pictures were edited. Following the India-Australia match, PM Narendra Modi visited the Indian players in the dressing room to encourage them. During the interaction, PM Modi hugged Shami and praised his performance.
What’s going viral?
Facebook user ‘LS Meena’ posted a reel on November 20 claiming that Rohit Sharma welcomed PM Modi after Team India’s defeat by touching his feet.
Another Facebook user ‘Hemingo Hindi’ posted the video on November 20 and wrote, “See, Shami touched Modi’s feet and Modi hugged him; Haseen Jahan got angry after seeing this, said, you will be stunned to hear this.”
In the video, it can be heard, “After the final match, PM Modi met Shami in the dressing room. During this, Shami touched the PM’s feet. After this, Haseen Jahan said that the way Shami touched PM Modi’s feet, being a Muslim, it was wrong.”
A YouTube channel named Cricket Exchange also uploaded a video on November 20. In the video, Australia Captain Pat Cummins can be seen touching the feet of PM Modi.
Investigation:
We fact-checked all three claims one by one.
First Video
At first, we scrutinised the viral video related to Rohit Sharma and PM Modi. During our investigation, we searched the keywords about the keyframe making the viral claim. There is a video uploaded on a YouTube channel named Asmit Sports on 20th November. In this, a photo similar to the viral picture can be seen. PM Modi can be seen in both the pictures, but Rohit Sharma is not there in the YouTube picture.
The viral keyframe can be seen at the beginning of the video uploaded on Krishi Jagran Business’ YouTube channel on November 20. PM Modi is visible in this, but Rohit Sharma is not. This shows that the viral picture is edited.
Second Video
In the second video, it was claimed that when PM Modi went to the dressing room to encourage Team India, Shami touched his feet. Hasin Jahan attacked Shami for his gesture. To verify the viral claim, we searched on Google using keywords. A video of PM Modi visiting the dressing room of the Indian team has been posted by ANI’s X handle. In this video uploaded on November 21, PM Modi can be seen hugging Shami, but Shami can’t be seen touching PM Modi’s feet.
The same video was also uploaded on PM Modi’s YouTube channel on November 21. In the video, PM Modi can be seen hugging Shami. Shami also shared his photo with PM Modi on his Instagram handle and wrote, “Unfortunately yesterday was not our day. I would like to thank all Indians for supporting our team and me throughout the tournament. I am especially grateful to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for coming to the dressing room and encouraging us. we will return!”
We did not find any information in any media report that could confirm the viral claim. Apart from this, we also searched about the claims made regarding Haseen Jahan using keywords. However, we did not find any such report.
Third Claim
In another video, it is claimed that Pat Cummins touched PM Modi’s feet. The picture used in this claim is the same one used in the assertion that Rohit Sharma touched PM Modi’s feet. The only distinction between the two pictures is the absence of Australian player Pat Cummins in the photo.
This indicates that the photo is also edited. We contacted Dainik Jagran’s sports editor, Abhishek Tripathi, for clarification. He stated, “The viral pictures are edited.”
Upon scrutinising the profile of the user who shared the edited picture of Rohit Sharma and PM Modi, we found that the user, residing in Bhilwara, has 668 followers. Additionally, a YouTube channel named Cricket Exchange has uploaded a fake video asserting that Rohit Sharma touched PM Modi’s feet.
Conclusion: Various viral pictures featuring Rohit Sharma, Mohd. Shami and Australia cricket team captain Pat Cummins with PM Modi are edited. These images have been incorporated into the video to garner views and create a sensation, but they bear no connection to reality.
