Fact Check: Fake Newspaper Clipping Going Viral To Spread Negative Propaganda Against Arvind Kejriwal

Vishvas News’ investigation determined that the viral news clipping regarding Arvind Kejriwal was fake. It was generated using a website, and there is no factual basis for the claims made within it.

New Delhi Vishvas News – A newspaper clip concerning Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is circulating widely on social media. The clip alleges, in a news format, that Arvind Kejriwal was accused of rape while studying at IIT Kharagpur and that police visited his hostel at that time.

Vishvas News investigated the viral post and found it to be false. The newspaper clipping was fabricated, originating from a website on the internet. Many social media users are sharing it to spread negative propaganda against Arvind Kejriwal.

What’s Going Viral?

On April 2, Facebook user B Narsing Raj shared a fake newspaper cutting and wrote, “Kejriwal as rapist in IIT Kharagpur”.

Investigation:

To investigate the viral newspaper clipping implicating Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Vishvas News initiated the investigation using the Google Open Search Tool. However, no media reports were found corroborating the claims made in the viral post, suggesting that Kejriwal had faced any such allegations as depicted.

Although the Times of India was referenced in the viral clipping, a search on their website yielded no news confirming the authenticity of the viral content. Previously, a similar incident targeting Rahul Gandhi had occurred, where a newspaper clipping was generated using the website Foddy.com.

Continuing the investigation, Vishvas News logged into Foddy.com to explore further. Here, options were available to input newspaper name, date, heading, and content.

Furthering the investigation, Vishvas News reached out to Aam Aadmi Party Rajasthan President Naveen Paliwal. The viral clipping was shared with him, and he confirmed it as fake, asserting that such disinformation is spread to defame Arvind Kejriwal, emphasizing there is no truth to it.

At the end of the investigation, the Facebook account of B Narsing Raj, a lawyer residing in Hyderabad, was scrutinized.

Conclusion: Vishvas News’ investigation determined that the viral news clipping regarding Arvind Kejriwal was fake. It was generated using a website, and there is no factual basis for the claims made within it.
