Fact Check: Fake Link Going Viral With Claims Of Free Recharge On Ram Temple Inauguration

New Delhi Vishvas News – Before the consecration of the idol of Lord Ram in Ayodhya’s Ram temple, various types of fake and misleading claims are circulating on social media platforms. Now, a post featuring Mukesh Ambani’s image is going viral, linking it with a free recharge. The claim accompanying the image suggests that in celebration of the construction of the Ram Temple, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath are offering three months of free recharge to the entire nation. The post also includes a link.

However, Vishvas News in its investigation determined that the claim suggesting that the government is providing free recharge to consumers on the occasion of Ram temple’s inauguration is false. The viral link is a phishing link, putting consumers at risk of cyber fraud.

What’s Going Viral?

While sharing the viral link on January 14, 2024, Facebook user ‘Balmiki Kumar Kushwaha’ wrote in the caption, “Ram Mandir Offer: On the occasion of establishment of Ram Temple in Ayodhya on 22 January, Modi and Yogi are giving freebies to the whole of India. Recharge of Rs 749 for 3 months. So now recharge your number by clicking on the blue link below.”

Investigation:

To investigate the viral post, we searched Google using relevant keywords, but no information related to the claim was found. Subsequently, we extended our investigation by checking the verified social media accounts of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), where we could not find any posts confirming the claim.

Continuing our investigation, we searched the official website of the Bharatiya Janata Party for information regarding the claim, but no relevant details were discovered. Given that the post featured the image of Mukesh Ambani, owner of Reliance Industries, we also examined Jio’s social media accounts and website. However, no information about the viral claim was found in these sources.

Upon closer examination of the viral link’s URL, it became apparent that it was unrelated to Jio or the Government of India. The URL of the viral link is mahacashhback dot in.

Seeking expert insight, we reached out to Kishlay Chaudhary, the founder of the Indian Cyber Army. He highlighted that people often fall into traps set by phishing links accompanied by such messages. Users are advised to verify information about such links before clicking on them and to check official websites and social media handles.

We scrutinised the account of the user who shared the fake link and found that the user has approximately 5,000 friends on Facebook.

Conclusion: Through its investigation, Vishvas News determined that the viral link associated with the name of Ram Mandir is a phishing link. The claim that the government is providing free recharge to consumers in celebration of the Ram temple’s construction is false. Clicking on the link poses a potential risk, as consumers may fall victim to cyber fraud.
