Fact Check: Edited Screenshot Of X Post Going Viral Linking It With Rahul Gandhi

A screenshot of a post, edited under the name of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, is circulating widely on social media. In the viral screenshot, Rahul Gandhi’s name is written incompletely.

New Delhi, Vishvas News – A screenshot of an X (formerly Twitter) post concerning Congress MP Rahul Gandhi is circulating widely on the internet. In this image, Rahul Gandhi’s photo is featured in the profile picture, but the username is incorrectly labelled as ‘Rahu Gandhi’. The screenshot suggests that Rahul Gandhi is purportedly disseminating inaccurate information about the Mahabharata.

Upon investigation, Vishvas News discovered that the screenshot being circulated on social media had been edited. In the edited version, ‘Rahu Gandhi’ is incorrectly depicted as the profile name, whereas on the official handle of the Congress leader, his name is correctly stated as Rahul Gandhi.

What’s Going Viral?

A user has requested to tell the truth by sending this screenshot to Vishvas News tipline number +91 95992 99372. “Rahu Gandhi @Rahul Gandhi Those who are accusing me of being a fool and not knowing anything about Mahabharata, let me tell you that Pandavas also stood for truth like Congress. Lord Rama showed and guided Arjuna on the path of divinity and karma and ultimately the 5 Pandavas – Yudhishthira, Lakshmana, Arjuna, Ganesha and Shatrughan Sinha killed Ravana.”

Investigation:

Upon careful examination of the screenshot to validate the viral claim, we observed that the profile name was listed as ‘Rahu Gandhi’. This raised suspicions for us. The date displayed on the screenshot was March 19, 2018, with a time stamp of 5:51 PM. We attempted to corroborate this information by conducting a Google search using relevant keywords, but no matching results were found.

Using Twitter’s advanced search feature, we specifically checked for any posts made by Rahul Gandhi’s X handle on March 19, 2018. However, no such post was found on Rahul Gandhi’s account on that date. A comparison between the post from this account and the viral screenshot reveals a disparity in the usernames. In the viral screenshot, the username is identified as ‘Rahu Gandhi’, while the genuine name is ‘Rahul Gandhi’.
