This email claiming to be from Amazon is a scam; do not share your personal information by clicking on the link.

New Delhi (Vishvas News): Vishvas News received a screenshot of an email on its Whatsapp Chatbot. As per the user, the email prompted Amazon user to click on a link and update the payment details by entering personal information. When Vishvas News investigated the post, we found it to be phishing mail. The email was received by a suspicious email ID that was not of Amazon. The message was a scam.

Claim

As per a message of the email screenshot shared by a user on Vishvas New Whatsapp Chatbot, an email received by a user reads: “Your Amazon account are on hold due to a billing issue. Update payment information.”

The email id from which the email was received was information-j7mzdzflkhp@wxbdbdijvp.net.

Investigation

Vishvas News contacted Amazon through chat support and communicated with Sunil Kumar, a customer service official. He suggested not to believe any such message as it may steal your personal information. The email id mentioned in the email isn’t from Amazon, but a scam.

According to the Amazon website, “These false emails, also called “spoofed” emails or “phishing,” look similar to legitimate emails from Amazon. Often these emails direct you to a false website that looks similar to an Amazon website, where you might be asked to give account information, such as your email address and password combination. Unfortunately, these false websites can steal your sensitive information, which can then be used without your knowledge to commit fraud.”

We could also spot certain grammatical errors in the email screenshot, which clearly gave a clue that it is fake. Many phishers send emails that they translate from other languages or don’t proof-read.

Amazon has also shared some tips to determine whether an email is from Amazon. There can be read here.

Conclusion: This email claiming to be from Amazon is a scam; do not share your personal information by clicking on the link.
