Fact Check: Claim That Rahul Did Not Visit Wayanad After Landslide Is FAKE; He Visited Before PM Modi

In its investigation, Vishvas News discovered that the claim of Rahul Gandhi not visiting Wayanad is fake. Rahul Gandhi visited the affected areas before PM Modi and fake posts are being circulated to spread the propaganda.

New Delhi (Vishvas News). Recently, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the landslide-affected areas in Wayanad and since then pictures from his visit have gone viral on social media. Some users claim that PM Modi has visited Wayanad, but Rahul Gandhi, who won from there, has yet to reach Wayanad.

Vishvas News in its investigation discovered that this claim is fake and Rahul Gandhi had already visited the affected areas of Wayanad before PM Modi. The claim is misleading and being spread with the intention of propaganda.

What is in the viral post?

A  Facebook user shared the viral post, with the caption, “The person in the photo, whose party lost in Wayanad is visiting and checking on people’s well-being and the one who won has not found time to visit his constituency yet.”

Investigation

To begin our investigation, we first searched the Congress’s X handle and found a post with some pictures on August 1, 2024. It stated, “Leader of Opposition Shri @RahulGandhi and Congress General Secretary Smt @priyankagandhi visited areas affected by the landslide in Meppadi, Wayanad and met the people affected by it.”

A video related to Rahul Gandhi’s Wayanad visit was posted on his Instagram handle on August 2, 2024.

Two pictures of PM Modi have also been shared in the post. Using Google Lens on the first picture, we found it was uploaded on the thread handle of DD News on August 10, 2024, mentioning that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had visited the relief camp and hospital in Wayanad to meet the landslide victims that today.

Similarly, we used Google Lens on the second photo of PM Modi and discovered it was among several photos shared on the Instagram handle of Live Hindustan. According to the information there, these photos were also from PM Modi’s visit to Wayanad.

We reached out to Uttar Pradesh Congress spokesperson Abhimanyu Tyagi, who confirmed, “Rahul Gandhi has visited Wayanad. BJP IT cell is always engaged in spreading propaganda against Rahul Gandhi.”

During a social media scan of the Facebook user who shared the fake post, we found that the profile has 2500 followers and shares posts aligned with a particular ideology.

Conclusion: In its investigation, Vishvas News discovered that the claim of Rahul Gandhi not visiting Wayanad is fake. Rahul Gandhi visited the affected areas before PM Modi and fake posts are being circulated to spread the propaganda.
