Fact Check: Claim Of The Indian Army’s Presence At Airports Across Bangladesh Is Fake

The video of the Airport Police Battalion guarding the Bangladesh airport is being shared with the false claim to show the presence of the Indian Army in Bangladesh.

New Delhi (Vishvas News). Amidst ongoing violence in Bangladesh, a video is circulating on social media showing security personnel moving through an airport. The video is being shared with the claim that it shows the Indian Army at an airport in Bangladesh amid the crisis and questioning its presence there.

Vishvas News investigated the claim and found it was misleading. The security forces seen in the viral video are not from the Indian Army but Armed Police Battalion (APB) personnel responsible for securing the Jatiya Sankranti International Airport.

What is going viral?

A social media user ‘Mohammad Uddin’ (Archive) shared the video with the caption, “Why is the Indian army at the Bangladesh airport..?”

Several other users have shared similar videos, claiming that the security forces seen in the video are Indian Army personnel.

Investigation

Upon examining the keyframes of these videos, it is evident that the uniforms of the soldiers do not match those of the Indian Army. Further investigation revealed a verified Facebook page of the Airport Army Police Battalion, the security force that guards the Jatiya Sankranti International Airport.

The logo visible in the viral video matches with the Armed Police Battalion. Additionally, a similar video was shared by the channel @muktadirnewage, identifying the security forces as Armed Police Battalion (APB) personnel at Dhaka airport.

Our investigation revealed that the security forces depicted in the viral video are a part of the Bangladeshi Armed Police Battalion, not the Indian Army or any other Indian security force. Boom Live Bangladesh’s fact checker Taushif Akbar verified that the soldiers in the video belonged to the Bangladeshi Armed Police Battalion.

According to recent news reports, Bangladesh’s Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned and left the country amidst ongoing protests against the quota system.

Even after Sheikh Hasina’s resignation, violence continued in Bangladesh.

According to a report in The Indian Express, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar addressed the Parliament on the Bangladesh issue and said “India is maintaining a wait-and-watch approach regarding the situation in Bangladesh. We are monitoring the situation and my team and I are on high alert.”
