Fact Check: Another Fake Post Going Viral In The Name Of Former PM Manmohan Singh

Vishvas News conclusively proved the viral post in the name of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to be fake, as he does not possess any social media handle.

New Delhi (Vishvas News) – A screenshot of a fraudulent post bearing the name of the former Prime Minister of India, Manmohan Singh, is going viral on various social media platforms. Users are sharing it with claims that it is authentic, and the former Prime Minister himself made the post. However, upon investigation by Vishvas News, the viral post was proven false, as Manmohan Singh does not have a Twitter handle with the name mentioned in the post.

What’s going viral?

Facebook user Ajit Chaudhary shared a screenshot of a post on his account featuring Manmohan Singh’s image on November 14. The caption of the post reads, “Indians wanted temples, and Congress kept building institutions like IIT, IIM, colleges, hospitals, airports, railways, dams, ISRO for 70 years, which have to be sold today.” Other users, believing the post to be true, are further sharing the post.

Investigation:

To ascertain the authenticity of the viral post attributed to the former Prime Minister, Vishvas News in its investigation, searched for the Twitter handle @PMdrmanmohan mentioned in the post but found no such handle on Twitter. This absence of a verified handle on Twitter strongly indicated that the post was fake, likely created using editing tools.

Additionally, Congress spokesperson Neeraj Mishra confirmed that the post is false, emphasising that Manmohan Singh does not have any social media presence and has never been active on such platforms. Vishvas News also highlighted the recurrence of fake posts in the name of Manmohan Singh on social media, which we have consistently investigated.

To conclude the investigation, we identified the user responsible for making the fake tweet viral as Ajit Chaudhary, a Facebook user residing in Gurugram, Haryana, with an account created in April 2013 and over 700 friends.

Conclusion: Vishvas News conclusively proved the viral post in the name of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to be fake, as he does not possess any social media handle.
