New Delhi Vishvas News – Amul consistently shares distinctive cartoons addressing contemporary issues on social media. In this regard, a picture circulating claims that Amul has recently introduced a product named “Sharam” in the market. Upon investigation, Vishvas News determined that the viral picture does not depict an actual product launched by Amul. Instead, it is an image generated through artificial intelligence. Users are sharing it mistaking it as an authentic product launched by Amul.

What’s Going Viral?

Social media user ‘Salman Iqbal‘, while sharing the viral picture, wrote, “Finally “Sharam” Naam Ki Bhi Koi “Cheese” Hai Duniya Mey??”. Many other users on different social media platforms have shared this picture with similar claims.

Investigation:

Amul maintains an official presence on various social media platforms. On X (formerly Twitter), we identified a video posted by Amul on December 25 that is relevant to the aforementioned matter. The video features Amul’s cheese products, and none of the products shown in the video is labelled as “Sharam.”

Further investigation on the same X handle revealed a post shared on December 20, refuting the viral claim. The post includes Amul’s official statement, which addresses the issue, stating, “Fake messages are being spread on WhatsApp and social media platforms regarding the new variety of Amul cheese. The person who made this post has done so independently and posted it on social media without obtaining Amul’s approval.”

The statement also clarifies that the image in the post was created using AI, misrepresenting the Amul brand, and emphasizes that the depicted packet does not contain Amul cheese. Subsequently, we verified the claim that the viral picture was created using AI, employing an AI tool for analysis. The investigation revealed an approximate 83 per cent probability that the picture was generated with the assistance of AI.

A news search yielded several reports reiterating Amul’s clarification on the matter. Vishvas News reached out to Amul for confirmation, and Amul affirmed that the viral picture was fake, emphasizing the misuse of the Amul brand name. Amul stated, “We would like to assure that the pack shown in this post is not an Amul product.”

Previously, a similar incident occurred with a viral picture claiming a new logo for the McDonald’s brand based on a beef theme. Our investigation revealed it to be fake and AI-created. The user who shared the viral picture with the false claim has approximately 19,000 followers on Facebook.

Conclusion: The viral image asserting that Amul has introduced a cheese brand named “Sharam” is fake and generated using artificial intelligence. Amul has not launched any cheese product under the name “Sharam.”
