Fact-Check: AI-Generated images of Dalai Lama, Vladimir Putin and Joe Biden go viral with false claims

The viral images of the Dalai Lama, US President Joe Biden and Russian President Vladimir Putin are fake and were created with the help of AI tools. All three pictures are being shared with false claims.

New Delhi (Vishvas News): Days after the huge controversy over the alleged video of the Dalai Lama with a kid, new pictures of the Tibetan spiritual leader are now going viral on the internet with a claim that he has been arrested. Along with the Dalai Lama, pictures of Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Joe Biden are also going viral with a claim that the two world leaders have converted to Buddhism.

Vishvas News in its investigation found all three claims to be false. Neither Putin nor Biden converted to Buddhism, nor has the Dalai Lama been arrested. The pictures going viral with these claims are fake and have been created with the help of AI tools. This is not the first time that AI-generated pictures of celebrities have been shared with fake claims. Earlier, fake pictures of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and former US President Donald Trump went viral with fake claims.

What are the viral posts?

Twitter user ‘Sweet Summer Shunü’ shared a picture of the Dalai Lama, in which police personnel could be seen holding him.

Vishvas News Investigation:

Earlier also, Vishvas News had fact-checked such images created with the help of AI tools. The photos created with the help of AI tools have many disparities, including the size of the fingers, the shape of the face and the background. All these discrepancies can be seen in the pictures of Biden and Putin. After doing a reverse image search, the user who shared these photos was found to be a member of ‘AI Creative Thailand’. It is evident that these pictures have been created with the help of AI.

Mid-Journey is one such AI tool, with the help of which users can create realistic images. Users have to give inputs about the image they want to create and the AI tool will prepare the picture as per inputs.

Twitter user ‘Sweet Summer Shunü‘ shared a picture of the Dalai Lama, in which some police personnel could be seen holding him. There are many anomalies in this picture too, which are the hallmark of AI-made pictures. In the background, a person could be seen with three eyes, while the fingers of the Dalai Lama and the policeman standing next to him are also visible in a strange shape.

Also, a user has also commented on this picture and said that this image was created with the help of an AI tool. Meanwhile, an organization named EFF has appealed to arrest the Dalai Lama, but nothing like this has happened.

Regarding the viral pictures, we contacted AI Expert and Deep Learning and Artificial Intelligence expert Abhijit Parashar. He said, “There are certain patterns in the images generated with the help of AI, with the help of which they can be easily identified. These photographs usually have many disparities and lack of clarity in facial and body contours.”

Earlier too, pictures of former US President Donald Trump’s arrest went viral, which were found to be fake in Vishvas News’ investigation. Also, several pictures of Prime Minister Narendra Modi went viral with false claims, which we found to be AI-generated. Fact check reports related to the investigation of fake and viral images created with the help of AI tools can be read on the Vishvas News website.
