New Delhi (Vishvas News): Voting for the 90 seats in the Haryana Assembly Elections 2024 will be held on October 5, 2024. Amid speculations surrounding Haryana Congress leader Kumari Selja, a picture of former Chief Minister Bhupendra Singh Hooda and Sirsa MP Kumari Selja has gone viral on social media. Some users are using this image to target the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Indian National Lok Dal (INLD), believing it to be a recent picture.
Vishvas News’ investigation revealed that the viral picture has been available on the internet for nearly five years.
What is the viral post?
Congress leader Surendra Rajput targeted the BJP by sharing this picture (archive link) on September 22, 2024.
Facebook user Rajpal Bhaker also posted this photo with similar claims (archive link).
Investigation:
To verify the viral claim, we reviewed Surendra Rajput’s post carefully and found that many users pointed out that the photo was old.
X user Pramod Kumar Singh on September 22, 2024, shared a screenshot of Bhupinder Hooda’s five-year-old post and labelled the photo as old.
Bhupinder Hooda shared this photo (archive link) on September 24, 2019, wishing Kumari Selja on her birthday.
This confirms that the viral photo has been available over the internet for about five years and is not recent.
According to the news published on Dainik Jagran’s website on September 23, 2024, Kumari Selja denied the speculations of joining the BJP in an interview with a private channel. These speculations arose after former CM Manohar Lal Khattar extended an offer for her to join BJP.

We reached out to Anurag Agarwal, the Haryana state head of Dainik Jagran, who confirmed that Kumari Selja and Bhupendra Singh Hooda have not met recently.
According to the press release from the Election Commission of India on August 31, 2024, voting for all the assembly seats in Haryana will be held on October 5, 2024, and counting of the votes will take place on October 8, 2024.
