Meanwhile, a video of gangster Bishnoi is rapidly going viral on social media. In the video, Bishnoi recites the poem ‘Sarfaroshi ki tamanna ab hamare dil mein hai’ and wishes the viewers a Happy Diwali. Users are sharing the video, claiming it is recent.

Vishvas News, in its investigation, found that the claim about the video is misleading. The viral video of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi is about eight years old, not a recent one as claimed. Users are sharing this old video with false claims, believing it to be recent.

What is going viral?

Facebook user ‘Dharmpal Bishnoi‘ shared the viral video on October 14, 2024, with the caption, “Happy Diwali from Shaheed Bhagat Singh’s devotee Lawrence Bishnoi.”

Investigation

To verify the authenticity of the viral video, we conducted a Google search using relevant keywords and found the video on the official Instagram account of News 24, shared on October 15, 2024. According to the available information, the viral video is about four years old.

During our investigation, we found the viral video on a YouTube channel named ‘Harry Raika’. The video was uploaded on April 27, 2023, and is said to be from Republic Day.

Using the information received, we conducted another Google search using relevant keywords. This led us to a longer version of the viral video on a YouTube channel called ‘Youth Chain’, uploaded on November 15, 2016. In the video, Lawrence Bishnoi first wishes everyone a Happy Diwali and then recites the poem ‘Sarfaroshi ki tamanna ab hamare dil mein hai.’ He then gives more information about this poem and extends Diwali greetings to the martyrs and the soldiers on the border.

We reached out to the DIG of Sabarmati Jail for more information, who confirmed that the claim is misleading and the video is old.

Lastly, we reviewed the profile of the user who shared the video with the misleading claim. The account has 7300 followers and frequently shares posts related to a specific ideology.
