Fact Check: 2018 Video From Varanasi Passed Off As Balanagar-Jeedimetla Flyover Collapse
When Vishvas News investigated the post we found it to be fake. The video shown in the viral post actually shows the collapse of an under-construction flyover in Varanasi in 2018. The video has nothing to do with Hyderabad.

New Delhi (Vishvas News): A post shared on social media accompanies a video in which a bridge appears to be collapsed. The claim alongside the post states that the video shows the Balanagar-Jeedimetla flyover collapse in Hyderabad.
When Vishvas News investigated the post we found it to be fake. The video shown in the viral post actually shows the collapse of an under-construction flyover in Varanasi in 2018. The video has nothing to do with Hyderabad.
Claim
A post shared on Facebook by a user named Chotu Padmashali accompanies a video in which a bridge appears to be collapsed. The claim alongside the post reads: “Avoid Balanagar Jeedimetla route. Under construction FLYOVER collapse. Gold telangana.”

Investigation
We started our investigation by searching the video through InVid tool. We extracted screengrabs of the video and performed Google Reverse Image Search of the screengrabs.
We found a 2018 news report on VOA News Youtube Channel showing the same incident as in the viral video.
As per the report, the video shows the collapse of a part of a flyover that was under-construction in Varanasi in 2018.
We performed Google search using appropriate keywords and found multiple news reports that covered the same incident in 2018.
We found a 2018 tweet from ANI covering the same incident. It showed the visuals from the site of the collapse of a portion of an under-construction flyover, in Varanasi’s Cantt. area. The visuals was similar as shown in the viral video. See the tweet here:
We used the Twitter Advanced Search of the InVid tool and found a tweet from Telangana State Police dated 24 February 2021, in response to a query by a Twitter user regarding the veracity of the video.
Regarding the viral video, Telangana State Police tweeted: Video does not belong to Balangar-Hyderabad. It’s a two years old video of Varanasi. They also shared the link of DD news that covered the incident. Here’s the tweet:
Vishvas News contacted Saraswathi Rama from Sakshi News, Hyderabad, and discussed regarding the viral post. She said: No, this video is not from Hyderabad. It is an old video of a flyover collapse in Varanasi.
The post is shared on Facebook by a user named Chotu Padmashali. When we scanned the profile of the user we found that the user is based out of Sircilla, India.
Conclusion: When Vishvas News investigated the post we found it to be fake. The video shown in the viral post actually shows the collapse of an under-construction flyover in Varanasi in 2018. The video has nothing to do with Hyderabad.
