Fact Check: 2009 video of children singing Shlokas is being shared as Queen Elizabeth’s funeral

The viral claim being made about the video of Queen Elizabeth’s funeral turned out to be false in the investigation of Vishvas News. The viral video has nothing to do with Queen Elizabeth’s funeral. This video is from a program held in the year 2009. 

New Delhi (Vishvas News). Since the death of Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II, a video of children reciting verses at Buckingham Palace in London is becoming viral on social media. It is being claimed that this video is of Queen Elizabeth’s funeral. Children of Britain chant Hindu mantras before Queen Elizabeth’s funeral.

The viral claim turned out to be false in the investigation of Vishvas News. The viral video has nothing to do with Queen Elizabeth’s funeral. This video is from a program held in the year 2009, Which users are now sharing in the wrong context. 

Claim : 

Facebook user Motilal Agarwal in Hindi (archive link) posted the video on September 10 and wrote, “Reciting Sanatani Shloka at the funeral of Queen Elizabeth of Britain.”

Investigation 

We watched the video carefully and found that Wildsfilm.com is written on the video. After this we started searching on Google with the help of this keyword. We found this video on the official YouTube channel of Wilds Films India. It was shared on 22 May 2019. After this it is clear that the video has nothing to do with the death of Queen Elizabeth. According to the information given in the caption, this video is from the 2010 Commonwealth Games event .

In a news search, we found a 29 October 2009 report on the website of ‘Times of India’ according to which, “The children of St James School Choir reciting Hindu shlokas in the program of Queen’s Baton Relay. This was the initial program of the Commonwealth Games-2010. This event is organized before the start of the Commonwealth Games. This event was attended by Queen Elizabeth, former President of India Pratibha Patil and former Sports Minister MS Gill.”

We found this video on the official page of Commonwealth Games Delhi. It was shared in 2009.

For more information we contacted a British journalist Naomi Canton and shared the viral video with her. She told us that, “the funeral has not taken place yet. It is next Monday 19th September. Her coffin is currently being moved from Scotland to London and then will lie in state for people to pay their respects until Monday. This video is not related to the Queen’s funeral.”

We scanned the profile of Facebook user Motilal Agarwal, who shared the false claim. According to the information given on the profile, the user is a resident of Odisha. 1039 people follow the user on Facebook.

Conclusion: The viral claim being made about the video of Queen Elizabeth’s funeral turned out to be false in the investigation of Vishvas News. The viral video has nothing to do with Queen Elizabeth’s funeral. This video is from a program held in the year 2009.
