Fact Check: Old Photo Of Miscreants In Jaipur Police Custody Being Linked To Gogamedi Murder Case; Viral Claim Fake And Misleading

New Delhi (Vishvas News): After the murder of Rashtriya Rajput Karni Sena President Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi in Rajasthan, the police have been trying to nab the accused in the case. Meanwhile, a picture is going viral on social media, where some people can be seen in police custody. While sharing the picture, users are claiming that the police have arrested these people for the murder of Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi.

Vishvas News found in its investigation that the picture going viral was taken in August, when the police had arrested these people in Jaipur for possessing illegal weapons. This old picture is being shared with a fake claim linking it to the murder of Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi.

What is there in the viral post?

While sharing the viral post, a Facebook user wrote, “Encounter is needed, not arrest. Now the administration has to decide whether the administration will kill or the Rajput community.” 

The picture also had a caption in Hindi, which roughly translates to, “Kill them in encounter. Putting them in jail will not be enough. Killers of Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi.”

Investigation

According to reports published on December 5, Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi, president of Rashtriya Rajput Karni Sena in Rajasthan, was shot dead in Jaipur on Tuesday. Unknown assailants entered his house in Shyamnagar area and shot him. According to reports, the conspiracy of this murder was hatched by Sampat Nehra, who is very close to gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. Meanwhile, Rohit Godara, associated with Goldie Brar and Lawrence Bishnoi gang, claimed responsibility for the murder, in a Facebook post.

According to reports of December 6, “The two shooters accused of killing Karni Sena President Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi have been identified. Police is busy searching for these two shooters. The name of one of the two shooters is Rohit Rathore and the name of the other is Nitin Fauji.”

Next, we searched the viral picture through Google Lens. During search we found the viral photo uploaded on the website of ETV Bharat.

According to a report published on August 22, “Two miscreants who were roaming around in the capital Jaipur trying to sell illegal weapons have been arrested by the CST of the Police Commissionerate from Shivdaspura area. Three illegal pistols and 9 live cartridges have been recovered from their possession.”

We also found the news related to the viral photo published on the magazine’s website in August. According to the news, “Police Commissioner Biju George Joseph said that instructions were given to take action against those who committed robbery and dacoity in Jaipur city. After receiving information from the informer, the team arrested Manish Singh Gurjar and Vishnu Rajput, residents of Gangapur Sadar, Gangapur. Police recovered three pistols and 9 cartridges from their possession. An accused is absconding in this case. The police have started searching for him.”

For confirmation related to the viral post, we contacted Jaipur’s senior correspondent Narendra Sharma and he told us that the accused in the murder of Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi are still absconding, and they have not been caught. The police is busy searching for them.

During social scanning of the Facebook user who shared the misleading post, we found that the user ‘Team Mahipal Singh Makrana’ has more than 2.5k followers on Facebook. The user is a resident of Bhilwara, Rajasthan.
