Fact check: Dr Vikas Amte did not write post about home remedies for cancer, viral message is fake

New Delhi (Vishvas News): Vishvas News came across a message being circulated widely on WhatsApp. Vishvas News also recieved the same for fact check on its tip line number. The message claims that Dr Vikas Amte overseeing Anandwan, shared these home remedies concerning lemon as home remedies for cancer.

Claim:

WhatsApp user shared a long message in Marathi stating that these were the home remedies suggested by Dr Vikas Amte on curing cancer.
The message said: डॉक्टर विकास आमटे यांनी कॅन्सर वर सांगितलेला अतिशय स्वस्त आणि घरगुती उपाय, प्रत्येकाने अवश्य वाचावा असा लेख!!

Vishvas News started its investigation with a simple online search.

We found a report being uploaded on the website, The National Academics of Sciences Engineering Medicine, which clearly stated that ‘Lemons cannot cure cancer’. Read it here.

Nowhere on the internet did we find an article that supported the claim that lemons could play a viral role in curing cancer.

In an attempt to understand it better we shared the claim with Dr Maneesha Kothekar, an Ayurvedic practitioner.

She told Vishvas News that there is no specific study in Ayurveda that supports the viral claim regarding lemons curing cancer. Also there are numerous types of cancer and hence the viral message is not accurate.

In the last step of investigation, Vishvas News also directly contacted Dr Vikas Amte, popularly known for overseeing the Anandwan project started by his father Murlidhar Devidas Amte, popularly known as Baba Amte.

He told Vishvas News, “This claim has been going around across various social media websites since a long time. And earlier too I had denied the claims. I am an allopathy doctor and I would not comment of Ayurveda.”

Conclusion: Vishvas News in its conclusion found the claim to be fake. Dr Vikas Amte did not share home remedies surrounding lemon to cure cancer.
