New Delhi (Vishvas News). Five states, including Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh, are set to go to polls this month. Preparations are in full swing as political leaders hold campaigns and file their nominations. Meanwhile, a video of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is going viral on all social media platforms. In this video, he can reportedly be heard saying, “If the farmer’s loan is waived off, the farmer’s habits will be spoiled.”
When Vishvas News investigated this video, it was found that this video is from 2018, when he gave a speech in Chhattisgarh. After listening to the entire speech, it has come to light that Rahul Gandhi was saying this while quoting BJP leaders.
Instagram user rdgs_media uploaded this video on October 29. The post read: “Congress’s thinking, Rahul Gandhi betrayed the farmers.”

Earlier too, this video had gone viral on social media, and Vishvas News had investigated the misleading claim. To find the truth behind the viral video, we had searched those videos of Rahul Gandhi with different keywords in which he had spoken on farmer loan waiver. During the search, we found a video on YouTube channel ‘The Soul of Politics’, posted on May 17, 2018. In the video, Rahul Gandhi could be seen speaking on loan waiver of farmers.
We found the original source of this video on Congress’ YouTube channel, which was live streamed from this page on May 17, 2018. The video was related to the Kisan Adivasi rally of Bilaspur.
After watching the entire video, it became clear that between 28:40 and 28:50 minutes, Rahul Gandhi made this statement while targeting the BJP government. He had said, “Their leaders say that farmers’ loans should not be waived off, because if the farmers’ loans are waived off, the habits of the farmers will get spoiled.” After listening to the entire speech, we came to know that Rahul Gandhi was referring to BJP leaders. He was not expressing his own views.
Taking the investigation forward, Vishvas News had contacted Congress spokesperson Akhilesh Pratap Singh. Regarding the video, he had said, “Infuriated with Rahul Gandhi, the IT cell people keep cropping his original speech and making it viral. There is no truth in this.”
At the end of the investigation, we investigated the account of Instagram user rdgs_media who shared the fake post. The user has only 183 followers.
