Fact Check: Video of Tejashwi Yadav attacking BJP in Bihar Assembly being shared with false claim

During a discussion on the budget of the road construction department during the Bihar Assembly session, Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav targeted the BJP over the misuse of investigative agencies and the Tamil Nadu crisis. The video clip of the same address has been shared with a false claim.

New Delhi (Vishvas News): A video clip of Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav is being shared on social media with the claim that he decided to give up his claim for chief ministership after the arrest of a YouTuber, who had spread fake videos of exodus of Bihar migrants from Tamil Nadu. The RJD leader can be heard saying so in the viral video clip. However, Vishvas News investigation found the context of Yadav’s statement was different.

The video clip going viral is that of Tejashwi Yadav’s address in the Bihar Legislative Assembly after raids against his family by the Enforcement Directorate and CBI. Yadav had said that neither does he want to become the Bihar Chief Minister nor Nitish Kumar wishes to become the Prime Minister. In this speech, he had said, “I am happy working under the leadership of Nitish Kumar.” This clip of speech is being shared virally by linking it to the Manish Kashyap case.

Claim:

Facebook user ‘NDTV Bharat’ shared the viral video with the caption, “#Tejashwi Yadav scared of Manish Kashyap #Tejashwi Yadav left the dream of becoming Chief Minister #Tejashwi #Yadav revealed.”

Several other users have shared the same video with similar claims.

Investigation:

The viral video clip is of about five minutes, in which Tejashwi Yadav attacks the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the Bihar Assembly over the Tamil Nadu case and over the raids against his family by central probe agencies. Yadav had said that he was happy to work under the leadership of Nitish Kumar, and neither does he aspire to become the Chief Minister nor Nitish Kumar aspires to become the Prime Minister. “Rather we mean to work for the people and solve their problems,” he said.

His statement is mentioned in many news reports. According to the reports, this statement was made during the proceedings of the Bihar Legislative Assembly budget session, when Yadav got up to speak on the discussion on the road construction budget. The BJP MLAs meanwhile made allegations against the RJD leader and walked out.

According to the report, “After this, Tejashwi Yadav attacked BJP saying these people have no work. They only hurl abuses at Nitish Kumar and me all day long. During the proceedings of the House, Tejashwi Yadav fiercely attacked the BJP over the ED-CBI raids. He said we had predicted during a rally in Purnia that CBI and ED actions would intensify, and the same happened. The ED officers came to our house in Delhi and sat for hours. When they began leaving, we asked them to show the seizure list, but they did not do so.”

The video of this session is available on the website of the Bihar Legislative Assembly. According to the information given, this address is related to the discussion held during the budget session of the Bihar Legislative Assembly, when Tejashwi Yadav made the statement dismissing the ongoing speculation about the Grand Alliance.

Meanwhile, YouTuber Manish Kashyap was arrested for sharing a fake and misleading video with the claim of violence against migrant laborers in Tamil Nadu. Along with the interrogation in Bihar, the Tamil Nadu Police has taken him along with them to Chennai for questioning in this matter.

It is clear from our investigation that the viral video clip has nothing to do with Manish Kashyap’s arrest case. We contacted Ashnini Singh, News Editor of Dainik Jagran, Patna regarding the viral video clip. He said that the clip is from the discussion held during the Bihar Assembly session, when Tejashwi Yadav targeted the BJP over the investigation agencies and the Tamil Nadu issue during the discussion on the departmental budget.
