During our investigation, we found a longer version of Rahul Gandhi’s speech on the official YouTube channel of the Congress party.
In the video uploaded on January 6, 2023, Rahul Gandhi was speaking about the country’s economy. At 32:48 minutes into the video, Rahul Gandhi can be heard saying, “Now I want to tell you a little about the economic situation of the country. The population of the country is 140 crore rupees, 140 crore people. Ok. Remember the first number. 140 crores. Listen well. Now remember the second number. Hundred. And listen to the fun. In India. Quiet down. I am talking about something deep. See 100 people on stage. 140 crore people in the country. The amount of money in today’s India. The amount of wealth that is in the hands of half of India is in the hands of the richest 100 people of India. Do you think this is right….”
After reviewing this video, it became clear that Rahul Gandhi had indeed made a slip of the tongue. He had said “rupees” instead of “people”, but he corrected himself within a few seconds.
The video’s description indicated that it was from Panipat, Haryana, where Rahul Gandhi addressed a gathering during Congress’ Bharat Jodo Yatra.
