Investigation:
To know the veracity of the viral post, we extracted several grabs of the video with the help of Invid tool and searched with the help of Google reverse image. Meanwhile, we found this video on the account of a Facebook user named Ankit Saharan. While sharing this video on September 30, 2022, the user wrote that it is about the OBC movement of Rajasthan.
On this basis, we started searching on Google with related keywords. We found that several users on Twitter also shared this video with the claim that it is about the OBC movement in Rajasthan. At the same time, while commenting on the video, a user has described it as PM Modi’s rally in Surat.
We then searched about PM Modi’s rally. During the search, we found a video of a roadshow in Surat on PM Modi’s official YouTube channel. The video was shared on September 29, 2022. On careful observation of the video, we found that there were many similarities between the viral video and PM Modi’s video. In both the videos, the saffron coloured flag and the idol of Rani Lakshmibai could be seen.
After searching the image of the Rani Lakshmi Bai statue on Google Earth, we found that it was located at Nilgiri Circle in Surat.
We contacted Jeevan Kapuria, Associate Editor, Gujarat Dainik Jagran, to know more about the video. He told us, “The viral video is old and is from PM Modi’s rally. The statue of Rani Lakshmibai seen in the video is installed at Nilgiri Circle in Surat.”
We contacted Shani Sharma, Deputy Chief Reporter, Delhi Dainik Jagran who covered the protest at Delhi Jantar Mantar. He told us that the claim being made about the viral video is false. This is not a video of Jantar Mantar.
At the end of the investigation, we scanned the profile of the user who shared the viral video with the misleading claim. We found that he is associated with Samajwadi Party and has been active on Twitter since September 2017. 1,231 people follow the user.
Conclusion: Vishvas News fact-checked the viral post being shared in the name of wrestlers’ protest and found it to be false. The viral video is of a road show held in Surat city of Gujarat in the year 2022, which is now being shared with the false claim that it was of the ongoing agitation by wrestlers.
