Fact Check: Video of a family dispute viral with fake communal claim
Vishvas News found the claim to be false. It was a family dispute in Balrampur, Uttar Pradesh, and there was no communal angle to the incident. Police have confirmed that both the accused and the victim are Hindus and are from the same family.

New Delhi (Vishvas News). A video is being shared on social media these days, in which some people can be seen beating a woman. A policeman is also seen standing in the video. The caption accompanying the video says that this is a communal case where some people from other religions are beating a Muslim woman.
In our investigation, Vishvas News found the claim to be false. It was a family dispute in Balrampur, Uttar Pradesh, and there was no communal angle to the incident. Police have confirmed that both the accused and the victim are Hindus and are from the same family.
What is going viral?
In the viral video, some people can be seen beating a woman. The video description reads “Muslims are oppressed in India and will continue to be oppressed if we do not protect them. It’s time to be unite. The Indian government will account! “

Investigation
We put this video on the InVID tool to fetch the keyframes of this video. Now we searched these keyframes on Google reverse image. We found a YouTube video that contained a news story about this video. A YouTube channel named INDIA TIMES NEWS AGENCY uploaded a video of a report on YouTube on May 23, 2020. The title of the video read ‘Balrampur: The video of a woman being beaten in front of the police goes viral.’ In this report of 3 minutes and 50 seconds, it has been told that this incident happened in Rehra Bazar police station area of Balrampur where the husband of this woman, her brother-in-laws and husband’s relatives beat up the woman due to domestic dispute.
When we searched with the right keywords, we also found this news on Jagran.com. According to the news, the incident took place in Rehra Bazar police station area of Balrampur where the woman’s husband, her brother-in-laws and husband’s relatives beat up the woman due to a domestic dispute. According to the news, ‘four people have been arrested. The SP has attached two police personnel of UP 112 who remained mute spectators during the brutal beating of the woman.’
On this incident, we also found a tweet from the Balrampur police, in which Balrampur Superintendent of Police Dev Ranjan Verma can be heard talking about the incident.
For more clarity, we spoke to Inspector Vinod Agnihotri, in charge of Rehra Bazar police station. He said, “There was some dispute about selling a house between Ashok and his wife Sushila in the village of Adarshpur under Rehra Bazaar. Susheela called 112 and called the police, after which Ashok started beating his wife Sushila. The woman’s brother-in-laws and other relatives also attacked her. Four people were arrested and a case has been filed. The case was about domestic strife. All these people are Hindus. There is no communal angle in this case. “
Many people are sharing this post on social media. One of them is a Facebook user named Wajid Jahangir. This user has 1,608 followers on Facebook. User lives in England.
