Fact Check: Remix of Durga Stuti and Islamic Song Sung on Martyr’s Day in West Bengal, Not Navratri Puja

Vishvas News found in its investigation that the viral video is from the Martyr’s Day program by Trinamool Congress in 2023, not of any religious gathering.

New Delhi Vishvas News. In a video, viral on social media, a person is seen performing a remix of Durga Stuti and an Islamic song on stage. This is being shared with the claim that it is of Durga Aarti performed during Navratri in West Bengal, where ‘Allah-hu-Akbar’ and ‘Ya Devi Sarvabhutesh’ were sung together.

Vishvas News found in its investigation that the viral video is from the Martyr’s Day program of Trinamool Congress held in 2023. It has no connection with Navratri or Durga Aarti.



What is in the viral post?



Facebook user LC Bhandari (Archive Link) shared the viral video and wrote, “Mata Rani Aarti in West Bengal? ‘Allah Ho Akbar’ and ‘Ya Devi Savbhutaishu.’ This is West Bengal, if you also want such aarti of Mata Rani to be performed in your place during Navratri, then you can vote for anyone except BJP. It is your wish.”



Investigation


To investigate the viral post, we searched the screenshots of this video on Google Lens. We found the full video on the official YouTube channel of TMC. In this 3-hour 28-minute video live streamed on July 21, 2023, at 35 minutes, singer Shantanu Roy Chowdhury is invited to sing on stage. After 44 minutes, he is seen singing ‘Allah Hu Akbar’ and ‘Ya Devi Sarvabhuteshu.’

This live video, streamed on 21 July, 2023, is also available on the official Facebook page of TMC.

On searching using keywords, we also found several news reports about this event, which was held on 21 July, 2023.

Martyr’s Day or Shaheed Diwas is celebrated every year by TMC on 21 July in memory of 13 supporters who lost their lives during police firing in 1993.

For further confirmation, we contacted Dainik Jagran’s Kolkata Bureau Chief J.K. Vajpayee. He said that this video is of the 2023 Martyr’s Day rally, not of any religious gathering.

According to the profile of Facebook user LC Bhandari, who shared the viral video with the misleading claim, he is a resident of Jodhpur and has more than 400 friends on Facebook.
