Fact Check: PM Modi Did Not Appeal To Vote For Congress, Viral Video Is Edited

Vishvas News conducted an investigation and confirmed that the viral video is indeed fake. PM Modi’s speech was directed against family-based politics during a public rally as part of the ‘Mera Booth Sabse Mazboot’ program in Bhopal. The viral clip was created by editing the footage from that event.

New Delhi, Vishvas News – A video featuring Prime Minister Narendra Modi has gone viral during the assembly elections in five states of the country. In this video, he can be heard allegedly stating that if you desire the welfare of your family’s children, you should vote for the Congress party. Some social media users are sharing this clip, claiming that PM Modi is soliciting votes for the Congress party.

Vishvas News conducted an investigation into the viral video, and it proved to be misleading. During a program held in Bhopal in June, PM Modi criticized the family system and targeted opposition parties and leaders. The viral video in question has been manipulated and shared to create a false impression.

What’s going viral?

While posting a video clip on October 19 on his Instagram handle, Ganesh Ram wrote, “Congress Party Zindabad Ashok Ji Bhai Saheb Zindabad got a lot of work done in Rajasthan”. In the clip related to the PM, it was written that Modi ji appealed to the public to vote for Congress. Many other users on different social media platforms have shared this video with similar claims.

Investigation:

Vishvas News first employed online tools to gather additional information about the viral video featuring PM Modi. We extracted several keyframes from the video using the Invid tool. As we began searching for these frames using Google Lens, we located the original video on Narendra Modi’s YouTube channel, uploaded on June 27, 2023. The video’s caption indicated that PM Modi addressed a public rally as part of the ‘Mera Booth Sabse Mazboot’ program in Bhopal.

At the 28-second mark in the video, PM Modi can be heard saying, “Those who seek votes in the name of family have already done a favor to themselves. Now, you must carefully decide whose welfare you wish to see. If you want to support the development of the sons and daughters of the Gandhi family, vote for the Congress. If you wish to benefit Mulayam Singh ji’s son, vote for the Samajwadi Party. If you desire the well-being of the sons and daughters of the Lalu family, vote for RJD. If you want to support Sharad Pawar’s daughter, cast your vote for NCP. If you seek the welfare of the son from the Abdullah family, then vote for the National Conference.”

At the 2:14-minute mark, PM Modi continues his criticism of family-oriented politics, stating, “If you care about your son, daughter, grandson, granddaughter, you must consider your family’s children. If you want to do good, vote for the BJP.”

Upon listening to this video, it becomes evident that the viral clip is fraudulent. It is evident that PM Modi’s video has been manipulated and falsely circulated. In the original video, PM Modi delivers a speech criticising opposition parties and their leaders.

He specifically targeted the prevalence of family-based politics.

In the subsequent phase of our investigation, we reached out to Dhananjay Pratap Singh, Political Editor of Naiduniya newspaper in Bhopal, and shared the viral clip with him. He confirmed that the video was fake, explaining that PM Modi had strongly denounced family-oriented politics in his speech, and this clip had been edited.
