Fact Check: Photo of Clash Between BJP Worker And UP Police Viral In The Name of Farmers Movement

New Delhi (Vishvas News): A picture is going viral on social media in which a person can be seen wearing a saffron-colored cloth on his neck and a t-shirt with the photo of Prime Minister Modi printed on it. The person can be seen showing a stick in front of a policeman. The image claims to show the instances of the recent violence during the tractor parade after the Republic Day celebrations on January 26.

Vishvas News investigated and found the claim to be fake. The picture is from June 2014, when Bharatiya Janata Party workers clashed with the Uttar Pradesh police in front of the UP Legislative Assembly.

Claim

A user named Kisan Putra shared a post on Facebook and wrote, “With joining hands I say don’t spread lies. Do not discredit the farmers.”

Investigation

We searched the picture using the Google reverse image tool and found a report published on June 30, 2014, on oneindia.com. According to the report, “Due to lack of law and order and power crisis in the capital of Uttar Pradesh, BJP workers on Monday staged a violent demonstration against the ruling Samajwadi Party (SP).”

We found the same picture in a report published on July 1, 2014, in telegraphindia.com. According to the caption of the photo, “On Monday, a policeman had a fight with a BJP worker during a protest outside the assembly in Lucknow. (PTI) “

For further confirmation, we contacted Ajay Srivastava, the reporter of Dainik Jagran in Lucknow. He told us, “This picture is from 2014, when some BJP workers clashed with policemen outside the assembly in Lucknow.”

Social scanning of the account of Kisan Putra, a Facebook user who shared the viral claim, revealed that the profile has 304 followers on Facebook and the user hails from Hisar in Haryana.

Conclusion: Vishvas News investigated and found the claim to be fake. The picture is from June 2014, when Bharatiya Janata Party workers clashed with the Uttar Pradesh police in front of the UP Legislative Assembly.
