Fact Check: People Seen Fighting In Video Were Members Of TDP, Fake Claim Regarding JSP Viral

New Delhi (Vishvas News): A video is viral on social media where two people can be seen involved in a physical altercation. The post claims that they are leaders of the political parties TDP and JSP.

Vishvas News investigated the post and found it to be misleading. In reality, both individuals involved in the altercation were members of the TDP, and this video dates back to the year 2016.

What is the viral post?

Facebook user ‘Jashuva Maxwell’ (Archive) shared the video on October 5, with the caption, “Huge fight between TDP and JSP leaders in Kakinada.”

Investigation

To check the viral claim, we searched the screenshots of the viral video on Google Lens. We found this video in a tweet posted by the news agency ANI on February 29, 2016. The caption reads, “Clash between 2 councillors of Telugu Desam Party (TDP) in Tenali Municipality of Guntur district (Andhra Pradesh).”

Upon searching with keywords, we found numerous news reports on this video. We found a news report on the website of Indian Express, published on February 29, 2016, which stated, “Two councillors of Telugu Desam Party (TDP) in Tenali municipality indulged in fist fighting in the municipal council hall on Monday. According to reports, councillors Gummadi Ramesh and Pasupuleti Trimurthulu had an altercation over the entries of a minutes book which one of them alleged were misleading. The argument soon turned into a fierce exchange of abuses and punches.”

We also found a news report related to the viral video on the YouTube channel of NDTV on March 1, 2016, which also confirmed that both individuals involved were affiliated with the TDP.

To further verify the authenticity of this claim, we consulted Asianet Telugu’s journalist Sriharsha, who confirmed that the two individuals seen in the video were indeed members of the TDP and that the video is from the year 2016.

Finally, we scanned the Facebook profile of Jashuva Maxwell. The user is a resident of Andhra Pradesh, and has a following of around 5,000 on Facebook.
